Job description

Kamatics is seeking a Quality Inspector II who performs basic inspection activities for products and materials, including first piece inspection and in-process monitoring, to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and Kamatics quality standards. This role supports production schedules by coordinating inspection activities within the value stream and reporting quality issues to the Quality Assurance Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection of mechanical components and assemblies to close tolerances.

  • Conduct first piece and in-process inspections within assigned value streams.

  • Identify surface, dimensional, visual, material, documentation, and workmanship non-conformities against blueprints and quality standards.

  • Report non-conforming materials or unusual conditions to the Quality Supervisor and cell/value stream leadership.

  • Use conventional and advanced inspection equipment, including gauges, measuring devices, and CMM tools, to verify conformance to drawing specifications.

  • Maintain inspection records, data, and logs; create inspection documentation such as IMS records, first article inspections, and related quality forms.

  • Prepare products and required documentation for customer or source inspections.

  • Assign and coordinate inspection tasks, as needed, to ensure production schedules are met.

  • Provide guidance or training to inspectors when required.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with productivity, quality, and safety expectations.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures; report safety incidents promptly.

  • Make recommendations for improvements to inspection processes, work procedures, and quality practices.

  • Participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities within the work area.

  • Provide a high level of service to internal and external customers.

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

  • Participate in cross-training and learning additional roles as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to Value Stream Manager / Senior Team Leader for work assignments and production scheduling.

  • Reports to Quality Assurance Supervisor for quality-related issues and concerns.

Job Qualifications:Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

Experience
  • Minimum of 2+ years of inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Skills:
  • Proficiency using measuring devices, gauges, and testing instruments.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify small discrepancies, defects, or compliance issues.

  • Ability to accurately document inspection results and findings.

  • Ability to analyze inspection data and compare results to specifications and standards.

  • Solid understanding of advanced shop mathematics.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, operation sheets, and blueprints, including GD&T.

  • Exposure to Statistical Process Control (SPC).

  • Basic experience with CMM operation and programming preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ERP systems.

Physical Demands
  • Frequent mental and visual attention.

  • Frequent walking and standing.

  • Occasional lifting and moving of materials up to 50 lbs. (15–40%).

Schedule Requirements:
  • First shift: 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Includes one hour of mandatory overtime at the start of each shift for a required 45-hour work week

  • Overtime paid at 1.5x the hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a week

  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet customer demands

  • Flexibility to work varying schedules as required
