What is a sound tech?

Sound techs, also known as sound technicians or audio engineers, are professionals responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining audio equipment used for live events, recordings, broadcasts, or performances. Their duties include mixing sound, ensuring audio quality, and troubleshooting technical issues with microphones, speakers, and other audio gear. Sound techs work in various environments such as concerts, theaters, studios, and film sets, collaborating with performers and production teams to deliver the best possible sound experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sound tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sound Tech, you need a solid understanding of audio engineering principles, acoustics, and experience with live or studio sound reinforcement, often supported by relevant coursework or certifications. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs), mixing consoles, microphones, and sound editing software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help Sound Techs collaborate with performers and production teams. These skills ensure high-quality audio experiences and seamless technical operations during live events or recording sessions.

What are some common challenges a sound tech might face during live events, and how can they prepare for them?

Sound Techs often encounter unexpected issues during live events, such as equipment malfunctions, feedback problems, or last-minute changes to the performance setup. To prepare, it's essential to conduct thorough sound checks, keep backup equipment on hand, and maintain clear communication with performers and event staff. Staying calm under pressure and having strong troubleshooting skills can make a significant difference in resolving issues quickly and ensuring a smooth event.

Job description

About Turtlebox Audio
The first Turtlebox was born out of necessity. After breaking every "loud" product on the market through routine outdoor use, the idea of the Turtlebox was born in our garage, not as a business but just for personal use. Nothing else could get the job done.
Most portable speakers aren't actually meant for the outdoors and can't withstand the elements, the ones that can aren't loud enough to be heard. When you're at the beach or on an ATV, you need sound to carry in order to hear it over the wind, waves, and boat engines, you need a Turtlebox.
We soon realized that there was a huge need for the Turtlebox among likeminded adventurers and our journey began to set out to make the world's loudest most rugged outdoor portable speaker.
