What is sound editing?

Sound editing is the process of selecting, modifying, and assembling audio elements to create the final soundtrack for a film, television show, video game, or other media production. This includes tasks like cleaning up dialogue, adding sound effects, balancing audio levels, and creating a seamless audio experience that supports the story. Sound editors work closely with directors and other post-production staff to ensure that the audio enhances the overall impact of the project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sound editor?

To thrive as a Sound Editor, you need a solid understanding of audio production, acoustics, and editing techniques, often supported by a degree in audio engineering or related experience. Mastery of digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools, along with knowledge of sound libraries and synchronization software, is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication are vital soft skills that help in interpreting creative direction and collaborating with directors and producers. These skills ensure high-quality soundscapes that enhance the overall impact of film, television, or multimedia projects.

What are some common challenges faced by sound editors when working on tight production deadlines?

Sound editors often face time constraints that require them to balance creativity with efficiency. Tight deadlines can make it challenging to ensure audio quality, resolve technical issues, and collaborate closely with directors or other post-production team members. To succeed, sound editors must prioritize tasks, maintain strong communication with colleagues, and utilize efficient workflows and software tools. Being adaptable and organized is key to delivering high-quality audio on schedule.

To become a sound editor, you typically need a bachelor's degree in audio engineering, film production, or a related field, along with experience using editing software such as Pro Tools or Adobe Audition. Developing strong listening skills, understanding of sound design, and familiarity with film or video production processes are essential. Gaining practical experience through internships or entry-level positions helps build a portfolio and industry connections.

Is sound editing in high demand?

Sound editing is a growing field, especially with the expansion of digital media, film, television, and video game industries. Skilled sound editors who are proficient with industry-standard software and have a strong portfolio are increasingly sought after, though competition can be intense in certain markets.

What does a sound editor do?

A sound editor is responsible for selecting, editing, and assembling audio elements for film, television, or other media productions. They use specialized software and tools to clean up sound, add effects, and ensure audio quality aligns with the project's requirements. Sound editors often collaborate with directors and sound designers to achieve the desired auditory experience.

Job description

LB Capital is hiring a high-level Short-Form Video Editor who understands that content isn't just about looking good, it's about driving results.
We're looking for someone who can consistently produce content that captures attention, increases retention, and performs across platforms. If you know how to engineer viral moments, structure edits for watch time, and think in terms of engagement metrics, not just aesthetics, this role is for you.
This is not an entry-level editing role. We're looking for someone who can own the outcome, not just the process.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Turning Content Into Performance Assets
  • Break down long-form content into high-performing short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, and YouTube Shorts
  • Identify and extract moments with the highest potential for virality, engagement, and conversion

Hook + Retention Engineering
  • Design scroll-stopping hooks within the first 1-3 seconds
  • Structure edits to maximize watch time, completion rate, and replays

High-Level Creative Execution
  • Add captions, b-roll, motion graphics, and sound design with intent not just decoration
  • Edit with a clear understanding of what keeps viewers watching vs. what loses them

Speed + Quality Workflow
  • Use OpusClip (or similar tools) to rapidly identify strong clips and create rough cuts
  • Finish content in Adobe Premiere Pro with clean, polished, professional execution

Trend & Platform Intelligence
  • Stay ahead of trends, formats, and platform shifts
  • Adapt content quickly to what's currently working not what worked last month

What We're Looking For
Proven Results (Not Just Experience)
  • You've created content that performs (high views, engagement, retention not just "looks good")
  • Strong portfolio showing winning short-form content

Advanced Editing Skills
  • Expert in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Comfortable using AI tools like OpusClip to increase output and efficiency

Deep Understanding of Social Media
  • You understand algorithms, retention curves, hooks, and pacing
  • You think in terms of performance metrics, not just visuals

Creative + Analytical Mindset
  • You know why a video works, and can repeat that success
  • You can adjust based on performance data and feedback

High Standards & Attention to Detail
  • Clean captions, proper formatting, safe zones, and audio balance are non-negotiable
  • You care about the final product like it represents your personal brand

What Success Looks Like in This Role
  • Content consistently hits strong engagement and retention benchmarks
  • Output is both high-quality and high-volume
  • You become a key driver of LB Capital's social growth and brand presence

Why Join LB Capital?
  • Work directly with a team focused on growth, performance, and results
  • Your work will have real visibility and measurable impact
  • Opportunity to grow into a lead creative role as we scale

Benefits:
  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance
  • Referral program
  • Vision insurance

Work Location: In person
$40,000 - $55,000 a year
