Job Description

The Technician II will be responsible for the electrical and mechanical maintenance of the baggage handling system. The required maintenance will follow processes and procedures established for the overall system maintenance and requests for service which includes both electrical or mechanical work. This position will perform work under supervision of the Shift Supervisor. This role will support the BEUMER Individual Carrier System (ICS) at Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and advanced maintenance on BEUMER ICS components, including ICS elements, diverters, scanners, and third-party equipment used to interface with the system.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems using structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Respond to system interruptions caused by carrier jams, sensor faults, or control logic errors; execute resets and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance aligned with BEUMER Group standards and OEM documentation on the ICS system.
  • Interface with BEUMER's High-Level Control (SAC) and PLC systems to monitor performance and execute logic-based interventions.
  • Inspect system health using diagnostic tools and performance dashboards; recommend optimizations to improve throughput and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, fault trends, and spare part usage in compliance with reporting protocols.
  • Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Quality Control standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with Shift Supervisors and cross-functional teams regarding system status, escalations, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support system upgrades, and updates, including hardware retrofits in collaboration with engineering and OEM representatives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including failure mode analysis and reliability-centered maintenance reviews.
  • Execute additional tasks or projects as assigned by management or supervisory staff.

Pay Rate: $31.01 per hour

Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in automated material handling systems, preferably within airport or logistics environments.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain airside security clearance.
  • Deep understanding of mechatronic systems, including sensors, actuators, motors, and controls.
  • Proficiency in BEUMER SAC systems, PLC programming (Siemens preferred), and fault diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, including Profinet, CANbus, and other Fieldbus systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and software documentation.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and software interfaces for system analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to reliability.
  • Clear and professional communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety, compliance, and quality standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.

Work Environment

  • Operates in a fast-paced airport setting with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and variable temperatures.
