Position Overview

Reporting to the Sort Manager, the Sort Coordinator has the overall responsibility of loading/unloading food product, leading a large group of volunteers as they prepare product for distribution to our partner agencies within our 21-county service area, operating common warehouse equipment, entering and exporting data from programs such as CERES, Microsoft, and Canva, and maintaining the Sort room. Requiring dependable assistance in warehouse operations and safety procedures, this position works independently and with minimal direct supervision. This job requires working day and rotating evening shifts, Monday through Saturday.

Relationships
This position is highly visible to volunteers requiring strong relationship management and communication skills. This position maintains positive relationships and communication with colleagues across various internal departments within CTFB.

Your Responsibilities

  • Handle material from warehouse to Sort area, which includes the operation of a forklift, jack truck, and/or other warehouse equipment, while operating in a safe manner
  • Evaluate donated products according to established food safety standards
  • Orient, instruct and maintain volunteer groups, large and small, on various projects, effectively communicating project instruction in a positive manner and working with large numbers of volunteers with a customer service focus, including volunteers that have cognitive/physical disabilities
  • Oversee volunteers in sorting, boxing, and preparing food and grocery products for distribution while maintaining high levels of energy
  • Work a flexible schedule, Monday-Saturday, day and evening shifts
  • Monitor supplies needed for Sort operations, including boxes, tape, soaps and disinfectants, sponges, labels, etc.
  • Keep Sort work areas clean and organized: remove trash, recycle cardboard, sweep and mop floors, and promote overall cleanliness and inspection readiness
  • Keep an accurate log of the weights and sources of all food and grocery products donated and all agency receipts and shortages using an inventory control system or equipment such as a handheld electronic scanner
  • Assess the condition of donated food, placing acceptable products in proper storage and immediately discarding unacceptable products.
  • Accurately enter and maintain information in required warehouse database systems, using our inventory system (CERES) or handheld inventory control equipment such as a scanner.
  • Organizes, sort, and labels perishable foods that may require special handling
  • Assist other program and services operations including direct distributions as needed.
  • Maintain a steady line of communication to ensure programs that we assist with have enough inventory. Such programs include but are not limited to CSFP, Home Delivery, Backpack, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, data gathering, and completion of goals, metrics and deadlines.
  • Commit to supporting CTFB's mission, vision, values, and culture.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary and/or requested including utilizing language skills you possess for those we serve and the organization.
