What is a solutions?

Solutions roles, often referred to as Solutions Engineers or Solutions Architects, are positions focused on designing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions tailored to meet client or business needs. These professionals bridge the gap between customer requirements and the technical products or services a company offers. They work closely with sales, product, and engineering teams to ensure that proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and address specific challenges. Solutions roles typically require strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication to translate complex concepts into actionable plans.

How does a solutions architect typically collaborate with sales and technical teams during the project lifecycle?

A Solutions Architect serves as a bridge between sales teams and technical teams, often participating in pre-sales meetings to understand client needs and designing tailored solutions. They work closely with sales professionals to articulate technical concepts in a customer-friendly way and with engineers or developers to ensure the proposed solution is feasible and aligns with best practices. Throughout the project lifecycle, Solutions Architects facilitate communication, oversee solution implementation, and address technical challenges, ensuring the client's requirements are met. This collaborative role requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate business objectives into technical solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solutions architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Architect, you need a strong background in systems design, software development principles, and enterprise architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), architecture frameworks, and relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and stakeholder management skills set top performers apart. These competencies are vital for designing scalable solutions that meet business needs and for effectively bridging technical and non-technical teams.

Job description

Advanced Space | Full-time | Onsite
We're going to the Moon. Think you've got what it takes?
About the Role
At Advanced Space, we're enabling humanity's return to the Moon and building the technologies that will take us to Mars and beyond. We're looking for a Solutions Architect to lead the technical vision and strategic growth of one of our innovation portfolios while helping shape the next generation of space technologies.
In this role, you'll work closely with the CTO, Business Development, engineering teams, and executive leadership to define technology roadmaps, identify new opportunities, and transform innovative concepts into funded programs and flight-ready capabilities. You'll bridge technical strategy with business growth, ensuring our portfolio continues to advance the state of the art while supporting NASA, commercial, civil, and national security missions.
We're looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering, strategy, and customer engagement-someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, influencing the future direction of space technology, and helping turn ambitious ideas into reality.
This position is open to U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents) only. Visa sponsorship is not available.
About Advanced Space
Advanced Space exists to enable the sustainable exploration, development, and settlement of space through innovative software, mission services, and technology solutions. As the owner and operator of NASA's CAPSTONEโ„ข mission and the Prime Contractor for AFRL's Oracle mission, we're helping shape the future of cislunar exploration while supporting commercial, civil, and national security customers.
Our team combines deep technical expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset. We move quickly, collaborate across disciplines, and empower every engineer to make meaningful contributions. If you're passionate about solving challenging problems and seeing your work fly in space, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Actually Do
Shape the technology roadmap.
Partner with the CTO to define and evolve the long-term technology strategy for your portfolio. Identify capability gaps, evaluate emerging technologies, and develop roadmaps that align technical innovation with company objectives and customer needs.
Lead technical strategy and solution development.
Develop high-level mission concepts and technical architectures that position Advanced Space for future growth. Support proposal efforts by shaping winning technical solutions, evaluating feasibility, and ensuring alignment with portfolio strategy.
Drive business growth.
Work closely with Business Development to identify new opportunities, engage customers and partners, and expand Advanced Space's presence within your technology portfolio. Help prioritize investments, evaluate return on investment, and guide technology maturation efforts through funded programs and IRAD initiatives.
Be the technical expert.
Maintain a deep understanding of Advanced Space's technologies, ongoing programs, customer priorities, industry trends, and competitive landscape. Represent the company at conferences, technical meetings, and customer engagements while serving as a trusted subject matter expert.
Connect innovation across the company.
Partner with engineering, systems engineering, program management, marketing, and leadership teams to ensure technology development remains aligned across projects. Track portfolio progress, communicate key metrics to leadership, and help preserve organizational knowledge as technologies mature.
Who Thrives Here
  • You have 8-12 years of experience in spacecraft systems, mission architecture, systems engineering, mission design, navigation, or a related aerospace discipline.
  • You have experience developing technology roadmaps, technical strategies, or solution architectures for complex engineering programs.
  • You understand spacecraft mission concepts, systems engineering, mission design, spacecraft subsystem trades, or mission-critical technologies.
  • You have experience leading technical trade studies and translating mission objectives into system requirements and operational concepts (ConOps).
  • You're comfortable engaging with customers, partners, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • You have experience supporting proposals, business development efforts, or strategic technology planning.
  • You communicate complex technical concepts clearly through presentations, technical papers, and customer discussions.
  • You're naturally curious, continuously learning, and passionate about advancing the state of the art.
  • You take ownership. When you see a challenge, you work with the team to solve it.

  • Advancing innovative technologies from concept through funded development.
  • Helping secure new business opportunities through compelling technical solutions.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Providing strategic technical leadership that strengthens Advanced Space's competitive position.
  • Successfully communicating portfolio progress, technical achievements, and future opportunities to company leadership.
