Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Location: Tysons VA, or Baltimore, MD

Duration: 6 month

H1B candidates are fine, but must be willing to be sponsored by WiseWire after 6 months of contracting. This has been open for some time, but only as direct hire. Now they are open for C2C too.

***2 days work from home/week after conversion!!!! This must be a very sharp individual.

Our team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong web development experience to work in our Baltimore, MD or Tysons Corner, VA location.

Communication must be very solid as they are a B2C and B2B digital content company. These candidates must have solid communication skills, at least 8/10 and be very clear over phone. The manager wants them to start in the next two weeks. An in person interview would be required.

As our technical leader and programmer, you will put in place the engineering team and processes to propel us into the top ranks of EdTech companies in both B2B and B2C spaces. Our e-commerce model lets users create their own technology-enhanced student-assessment items and sell them on our site along with our own high-quality learning objects. Our learning platforms can connect with 3rd-party learning-management systems and you'll integrate our systems with the most widely- used learning technologies in the world today.

This is an opportunity for you to apply your engineering and programming expertise and grow into a leadership role steering the technical direction of Wisewire. You will coordinate the efforts of a number of independent developers and perhaps a small vendor team building our WordPress/PHP based marketplace as well as our J2EE/Groovy-based student assessment platform. You will OWN our code and you'll create our software-development and operational processes from scratch. You will select or build tools for deployment, monitoring, and operations, show leadership in finding out-of-the-box solutions to technical issues and also an opportunity to enhance your DevOps skills

About you:

* You've worked as a Senior Software Engineer in an enterprise setting

* You have implemented or spearheaded new processes that include GitHub, scum, continuous integration and deployment

* You have expert-level code experience with PHP (especially custom coding in WordPress/Woocommerce) and/or Groovy

* You have worked in a team of JavaScript engineers, you have done or led front end development, have been in situations where you have re-architected legacy systems

* You have lead or worked in a team of developers to successfully design and develop a multi-tier application.

* You have designed and developed custom web and native applications;

* Developed core services using a prebuilt framework to perform tasks and may be authored software documentation.

* You have experience with configuration management and some dev-ops insight, preferably automated

* You're comfortable with a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (experience with Git and AWS is required)

* You're fluent in SQL and MySQL

Basic Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree in IT-related discipline

* At least 4 years' experience in web software development

* Functional knowledge of AWS and Git (BitBucket)

* Work with multiple product owners to understand and help inform desired application functionality

* Continuously improve software engineering and operations practices

* Work with multiple company teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a range of technologies

* Own the quality, performance, and scalability of your solutions and processes

* Stay on top of tech trends, and experiment with and learn new technologies

* Be passionate about innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, and self-organization

* Be equally as comfortable deep in the code as you are crafting and driving the technologyroadmap many months ahead

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's Degree in IT-related discipline

* 6+ years' experience in software development, especially with J2EE, Groovy, or PHP will be great

* Experience in DevOps practices is very desirable
