What are some common challenges Solution Architect Associates face when transitioning from technical roles, and how can they overcome them?

Solution Architect Associates often transition from hands-on technical positions, so adapting to a role that requires strong communication and stakeholder management can be challenging. Balancing technical depth with the ability to convey complex solutions to non-technical audiences is essential. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to practice active listening, seek mentorship from experienced solution architects, and participate in cross-functional meetings to build confidence in presenting and defending architectural decisions. Continual learning about business priorities and focusing on collaborative problem-solving will also aid in a successful transition.

Their role often involves collaborating with developers, engineers, and stakeholders to translate business objectives into technical architectures. Solution Architect Associates typically have a foundational understanding of cloud services, software development, and IT infrastructure. This position is a common starting point for those aiming to become full Solution Architects.

Your Role

The Lead Solution Architect, Pega is a hands-on, outcomes‑oriented leader who partners with business and technology stakeholders to design, validate, and deliver end‑to‑end solutions centered on the PEGA platform. You will own discovery for high‑impact initiatives across claims, servicing, and operations—translating strategy into executable workflows, case lifecycles, and decisioning while ensuring scalability, compliance, and an excellent associate and customer experience.  The Solutions Architect is responsible for designing and delivering technology solutions that align with Genworth’s business objectives and enterprise architecture standards. This role bridges business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and compliant.

What you will be doing

  • Translate business requirements into technical designs for applications, data, and infrastructure.
  • Ensure solutions comply with Genworth’s Architecture Design Framework (ADF) and EA principles.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Principal Architects, and development teams to maintain consistency and reuse patterns.
  • Participate in Architecture Review Board (ARB) processes and prepare solution review documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership during solution implementation and integration
  • Lead business architecture for complex programs: process modeling, case/lifecycle design, persona & channel strategy, and data/interface mapping in Pega.
  • Facilitate requirements discovery (journey mapping, use cases, BRDs, epics/stories) and align them to Pega capabilities, frameworks, and guardrails.
  • Define solution scope, MVPs, and incremental releases; balance business outcomes, operational risk, compliance, and technical constraints.
  • Partner with Product Owners, UX, and Pega SSAs/CSAs to translate business rules into decision strategies, DCO assets, and testable acceptance criteria.
  • Establish functional designs, mockups, prototypes, and test plans; lead SIT/UAT to validate value realization and readiness for production.
  • Coach agile teams and stakeholders on Pega methodology and best practices; mentor other BSAs and evangelize continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to platform governance: backlog triage, reuse standards, data quality, and compliance documentation; support audits where needed
  • Support business cases and roadmaps with measurable KPIs (cycle time, STP rate, NIGO reduction, CSAT, operational cost)

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years in business analysis/architecture with 4+ years focused on Pega programs.
  • Pega Certified Business Architect (PCBA/CPBA) required; CSSA/CSBA preferred
  • Demonstrated delivery across full lifecycle: discovery → design → build support → testing → go‑live → adoption
  • Expertise in case management, workflow orchestration, rules/decisioning, integrations, and data modeling in Pega
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with senior stakeholders; ability to drive consensus and decisions rapidly
  • Strong knowledge of application architecture, integration patterns, and technology stacks.
  • Ability to understand business processes and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical capabilities for complex technical challenges.

Nice to have

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or healthcare operations (claims, policy servicing, customer care)
  • Familiarity with Genworth’s values and customer mission; prior exposure to LTC claims or servicing is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Agile (Scrum/Kanban), Jira/Azure DevOps, DCO workshops, and design‑thinking techniques
