Job description

As a Solid Waste Engineering Project Manager for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Nashville, TN office, youโ€™ll support the design, analysis, permitting, and preparation of drawings and technical specifications for solid waste disposal facilities, including coal combustion residual (CCR) and industrial facilities. Youโ€™ll perform a variety of engineering tasks, including landfill system design, leachate and stormwater infrastructure, gas collection systems, site roadways, and support structures. Youโ€™ll contribute to technical report preparation, permit applications, construction documents, cost estimates, and solid waste management plans. Youโ€™ll collaborate with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies from conceptual design through permitting, bidding, and construction, while mentoring junior staff to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design, analysis, permitting, and construction-phase services for solid waste, coal combustion residual (CCR), and industrial waste management facilities

  • Oversee landfill system design, including liners, leachate and stormwater infrastructure, gas collection systems, site roadways, and support structures

  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, and solid waste management plans

  • Conduct field and office coordination with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project teams to ensure project success

  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff, supporting professional development and project delivery

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality of project deliverables in accordance with client expectations and engineering standards

  • 5+ years of experience in design, permitting, document preparation, and construction quality assurance of waste disposal facilities
  • Coordinate regulatory agency review and permitting processes for complex projects
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering; Master of Science preferred
  • Professional Engineering Licensure or ability to obtain Tennessee licensure
  • Apply consulting project business practices and project delivery methods
  • Manage projects and lead teams to deliver on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Write technical reports, proposals, and other project documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Autodesk Civil 3D
Preferred Capabilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams on complex waste disposal or environmental projects
  • Develop and implement strategies for regulatory compliance and permitting efficiency
  • Mentor junior engineers and staff
  • Experience with client development or business growth initiatives
