Commercial Solar & Battery Interconnection Specialist
Location: Depew, NY — In Office
Salary Range: $70,000–$85,000, depending on experience
Purpose
Own the utility interconnection process for Buffalo Solar's commercial rooftop, behind-the-meter (BTM) solar PV and battery energy-storage projects throughout the Northeast, from early interconnection evaluation and application through Permission to Operate (PTO).
This role requires prior renewable-energy interconnection experience and experience with battery storage. We are looking for someone who is passionate about solar, energy storage, and the evolving electric grid and wants to continue developing deep expertise in commercial distributed-energy interconnection.
Key Responsibilities
  •  Own interconnection for commercial rooftop, behind-the-meter solar PV, battery storage, and solar-plus-storage projects from application through PTO.
  •  Evaluate existing commercial electrical services and potential points of interconnection in coordination with engineering.
  •  Prepare and manage utility interconnection applications and supporting technical documentation.
  •  Review single-line diagrams, service configurations, system designs, inverter and battery specifications, and utility requirements.
  •  Identify potential capacity constraints, service limitations, utility upgrades, metering requirements, and other interconnection risks early in project development.
  •  Coordinate directly with utilities, engineers, customers, and internal project teams to resolve technical questions and keep projects moving.
  •  Manage utility comments, deficiencies, revisions, approvals, inspections, witness testing, metering, and PTO requirements.
  •  Support early-stage BTM solar and storage interconnection feasibility
  •  Apply existing battery-storage knowledge while continuing to develop expertise in BESS operating modes, export/non-export configurations, controls, protection, and utility requirements.
  •  Manage multiple commercial projects across different utilities and jurisdictions throughout the Northeast.
  •  Maintain accurate project status, correspondence, documentation, deadlines, and next actions.
  •  Build and continuously improve Buffalo Solar's utility-specific interconnection processes, checklists, templates, and internal knowledge base.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous solar interconnection experience is required.
  •  Experience with commercial, industrial, distributed-generation, or utility-scale renewable-energy interconnection
  •  Experience with battery energy-storage systems (BESS) is required.
  •  Strong understanding of utility interconnection processes and the ability to interpret single-line diagrams, electrical-service configurations, and technical equipment documentation.
  •  Experience communicating directly with utilities and resolving interconnection issues.
  •  Ability to learn and navigate different utility requirements and jurisdictions throughout the Northeast.
  •  Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  •  A genuine passion for commercial solar, battery storage, distributed energy, and the changing electric grid
This is not a residential solar interconnection position. Candidates with utility-scale backgrounds should have the interest and technical ability to transition their experience to commercial rooftop, behind-the-meter distributed-energy systems.

Growth Opportunity
As Buffalo Solar's commercial solar and battery-storage portfolio expands, this position is expected to grow into an increasingly technical role.
The goal is for this individual to become Buffalo Solar's subject-matter expert in commercial BTM solar and battery interconnection, supporting increasingly complex storage projects, early-stage feasibility, technical standards, and interconnection strategy across the Northeast.
