Southwest Electric Co. is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to design all Structural components required for switchgear, provide technical support, manufacturing instructions, and drawings related to all fixed assemblies, bus work, and steel etc. 



Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and high proficiency working with AutoCAD 2D (AutoCAD Inventor 3D preferred) to create mechanical designs that meet various standards (ANSI, IEEE), codes (NEC, Local, etc.) and customer requirements.
  •  Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing 3d software creating and revising mechanical assemblies including assembly and part drawings - Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities including sheet metal and bus work.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
  • Understanding and utilizing switchgear knowledge in electrical safety, compartmentalization, and clearance standards - MV Switchgear preferred.
  • Review customers' specifications and mechanical drawings to determine requirements with respect to manufacturing and design.
  • Review one-line diagrams to determine the necessary design required to meet the customer's specification.
  • Provide technical support for shop floor personnel on manufacturing and mechanical-related issues.


Requirements

Mechanical Engineer Qualifications:


Associates degree from (minimum) from a technical program (electrical/ mechanical) using CAD software, 4 years working experience as a Drafter/ Designer.


Bachelor's degree preferred.
