We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator with experience in electrical and distributed energy infrastructure projects. This role supports the development of accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates across microgrid systems, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), generator installations, EV charging infrastructure, and associated power distribution systems.
The ideal candidate has experience estimating construction, maintenance, and commissioning scopes and is comfortable working across multidisciplinary electrical projects.
This position works cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and external partners to deliver well-qualified proposals that balance competitiveness, technical accuracy, and risk management.
Pay: $80,000 - $120,000
The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-6+ years of experience in electrical or energy infrastructure estimating.
  • Experience interpreting electrical, civil, and structural drawings.
  • Working knowledge of distributed energy systems including solar, BESS, generators, or power distribution.
  • Experience estimating construction projects and/or maintenance/service contracts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% for site visits and pre-bid meetings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with microgrid projects or integrated energy systems.
  • Experience with commissioning or startup coordination.
  • Experience with Accubid or similar electrical estimating software.
  • Experience with Bluebeam for drawing review and digital take-offs.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (cost modeling, complex formulas, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with design-build or EPC project delivery models.
  • Experience with public and private sector RFP processes.
  • Relevant certifications (CPE, EEP, PMP) are a plus.

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Proposal Development
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for microgrid and electrical infrastructure projects, including solar PV, BESS, generator systems, switchgear, substations, EV charging infrastructure, and related site work.
  • Develop estimates for construction, commissioning, startup, preventive maintenance, and ongoing service scopes.
  • Perform drawing take-offs, labor and material pricing analysis, and scope reviews.
  • Occasional participation in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and site evaluations.
  • Analyze project drawings and specifications to ensure complete and accurate cost forecasting.
  • Coordinate and validate pricing from subcontractors, OEMs, and suppliers.
  • Develop clear scopes, assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions within each estimate.

Maintenance & Commissioning Estimating
  • Estimate commissioning activities including functional testing, system startup, and performance validation.
  • Develop pricing models for preventive maintenance agreements and service contracts.
  • Collaborate with operations and field teams to validate labor assumptions, service intervals, and resource planning.
  • Ensure lifecycle considerations are incorporated into project pricing when applicable.

Project Qualification & Risk Management
  • Review project scope and identify risks, gaps, or constructability concerns.
  • Evaluate logistics, phasing requirements, interconnection considerations, and resource capacity.
  • Support margin performance through thoughtful scope analysis and contingency planning.
  • Align bid strategy with company capabilities and long-term service opportunities.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and leadership to review and refine estimates.
  • Participate in internal bid reviews and support estimate presentations when required.
  • Maintain and update historical cost databases for benchmarking and forecasting.
