About The Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking a detail-oriented and community-minded professional to support and advance our mission through local education and outreach. This role plays a crucial role in developing, coordinating, and delivering educational programs while also providing essential administrative support to our office and clients. Essential Functions Plans, schedules, and delivers a variety of educational programs that include, but are not limited to annual third grade through high school classroom presentations for the NC Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts' annual contests (themes include: watersheds, soil, water cycle, wetlands, and other agricultural related subjects). Participates at various levels in county and state level Envirothon training and competitions. Organizes and participates in the district's 7th grade Conservation field days.

Coordinate teacher workshops, Resource Conservation Workshops for high school students, and other conservation-related presentations, as needed. Plans and coordinates department special events and programs, including, but not limited to annual conservation awards banquet, land judging competitions, presentations, and other events, as needed. Assists the SWCD Board in their monthly meetings by taking minutes, preparing information, developing relevant publications and relaying necessary correspondence.

Prepares various County financial forms and District paperwork- including time sheets, supervisor travel forms, various forms required for elected/appointed officials and District staff, Board meeting minutes, strategy plans, spot check forms, long range plans, quarterly billing, and other state-required and grant paperwork. Produces, publishes, and distributes the district's outreach efforts including newsletters, press releases, brochures, advertisements, and monthly and annual reports. Completes and maintains all forms, applications, reports, files, records, procedure manuals, necessary for department.

Performs a variety of administrative functions pertaining to County government, along with state-funded grants and programs by assisting with the development of the county budget, and handling disbursements and receipts of funds throughout the fiscal year. Assists walk-in clients and phone clients as needed and distributes relevant information, and/or directs them to the appropriate agency. Attends County department head meetings in absence of the District Director, attends SWCD, NC Association of SWCDs, NRCS and other professional meetings, classes, workshops, lectures, etc.

as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of soil and water conservation practices, technical and administrative procedural changes with federal, state, and local requirements. Serves on professional committees as needed, such as the Area 1 Education committee. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques. Knowledge of department functions, organization and policies. Knowledge of business English and spelling.

Knowledge of the functions, methods, policies and responsibilities of Soil and Water Districts in North Carolina. Ability to maintain confidential records. Ability to work collaboratively and independently Ability to operate data entry and personal computer equipment, type and transcribe dictation at a reasonable rate of speed.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, outside agencies and the general public. Physical Demands This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work regularly requires sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities. Work Environment & Schedule Must be available for scheduled monthly Board meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Department Hours of Operation are Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30pm and closed from 12:00 - 1:00 for Lunch. Work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)

Education and Experience Minimum Education and Experience: Associates degree and two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred experience includes individuals with an agricultural education or similar background. Those with agricultural, FFA, or similar experience are encouraged to apply.

Required Licenses or Certifications: Ability to obtain department specific certifications at the required deadlines. Driver's License valid in the State of North Carolina. Additional Requirements: Successful completion of SBI background check with required fingerprinting by Sheriff Office.
