The RPG Programmer Analyst performs the job of both a systems analyst and a computer programmer. Systems analysts design and develop software and computer systems. Computer programmers implement the designs by writing computer programs as well as updating and repairing existing programs. The programmer's role will be to provide and assist in a variety of services developing and maintaining the vast array of application systems, including the operation and administration of the IBMi platform.
Responsibilities:
• Consult with department heads to determine the role of the IT system in an organization.
• Research emerging technologies to evaluate whether they can increase the organization's efficiency and effectiveness.
• Prepare an analysis of costs and benefits so management can decide if information systems and computing infrastructure upgrades are financially worthwhile.
• Devise ways to add new functionality to existing computer systems. • Design and develop new systems by choosing and configuring hardware and software.
• Installation and configuration of new systems and customize them for the organization.
• Conduct testing to ensure that the systems work as expected.
• Maintain IBMi power systems platform, manage and maintain database systems.
• Train the system's end users and write instruction manuals.
• Monitor and respond to trouble tickets in a timely manner.
• Provide technical support for local and remote users. Maintain relationships with employees of various departments to ensure open lines of communications exist to facilitate the timely and efficient transfer of policies, procedures, knowledge, etc. exist across the entire organization.
Qualifications
Requirements:
• Education - Bachelor's degree from a college or university in the field of Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Some level of professional experience with RPG in a related capacity; internship experience may apply
• Communication Skills - To perform this position successfully, you should be able to effectively communicate with users of all knowledge levels in both written and verbal forms of communication
• Excellent software development and object-oriented design fundamentals
• Strong background in architecture in software applications
• Experience with SQL, RPG, ILE, FREE, CL programming languages and IBMi.
* Candidates must have at least 2 years of professional experience with RPG.
