Job description

Experience NDT Physicist will join the National Oilwell Varco (NOV) Tuboscope Inspection R&D team, focusing on the development of advanced inspection technologies for tubular products. This role involves designing and implementing innovative ultrasonic and electromagnetic solutions to enhance nondestructive testing capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ultrasonic and electromagnetic inspection systems for tubular goods.
  • Design and implement new procedures and methodologies for nondestructive testing.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers on equipment design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Investigate and resolve inspection challenges encountered in field operations.
  • Communicate technical findings and technical suggestions through detailed reports and presentations.
  • Support Operations with ultrasonic scan plans and address customer inquiries and technical issues.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of relevant industrial experience in ultrasonic (UT) nondestructive testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics (with specialization in ultrasound/NDT), or a related field.
  • Experience with phased array ultrasonic testing and/or electromagnetic inspection methods (e.g., magnetic flux leakage, eddy current) is preferred.
  • Experience in design, development of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) systems, and testing of NDE components and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform both analytical and experimental research.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages and tools on PC (Windows or Linux) such as C, C++, C#, Python or JavaScript is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition, signal & image processing, electronics, ultrasonic probes, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of finite element methods for ultrasound or electromagnetism
  • Knowledge of computer vision or vision-language model for NDT or automation
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as API, ASTM.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with practical problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and capable of conducting independent research in a multidisciplinary environment.
