Job description

Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Solution Architect to join our team in Orlando, FL.
Provides advanced and diversified solution architecture expertise for enterprise asset management software, product modernization, API migration, database performance, and technical implementation of highly complex product capabilities. With limited direction, applies architectural judgment, product knowledge, and hands-on technical leadership to preserve continuity of existing systems while guiding the design, migration, optimization, and adoption of next-generation product capabilities.
Critical functions of this role include product architecture, complex code investigation, platform maintenance oversight, migration support, and database performance tuning. The Solution Architect serves as a technical authority across the business to ensure product stability, customer continuity, and knowledge distribution.
Your role
  • Leads solution architecture for complex product capabilities: Defines technical approaches, design patterns, implementation strategies, and system behavior for highly complex application features across legacy and modernized product platforms.
  • Translates business requirements into technical designs: Interprets product functional requirements and converts them into actionable technical specifications, implementation plans, design documents, and acceptance considerations.
  • Performs complex code investigation and troubleshooting: Analyzes code paths, repository structure, data interactions, defects, root causes, and product behavior to answer escalated technical questions and support timely resolution of high-impact issues.
  • Provides SQL and database performance leadership: Reviews database interactions, query plans, indexes, data access patterns, and performance impacts using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Profiler, and related diagnostics to prevent lag or degradation.
  • Reviews and approves critical maintenance changes: Establishes and applies approval criteria for changes to legacy and production systems, including merge reviews, behavior-change assessment, configuration needs, regression risk, and customer impact.
  • Evaluates feature deprecation and customer impact: Identifies affected users, workflows, integrations, configurations, reporting impacts, and migration needs when product functionality changes or is retired.
  • Supports documentation, demos, and QA planning: Creates or reviews technical overviews, architecture notes, feature demonstrations, QA test-plan inputs, and implementation assumptions for major new features.
  • Acts as technical feature champion: Provides end-to-end technical leadership for assigned features, ensuring alignment among product management, UX, development, QA, implementation, support, and client-facing teams.
  • Improves engineering practices: Contributes to code review standards, JIRA process improvement, DevOps friction reduction, reusable checklists, coding conventions, testing practices, and knowledge retrieval methods.
  • Mentors senior and developing technical staff: Provides coaching, pair-working, design review, troubleshooting support, and architectural guidance to distribute product knowledge and reduce single-person dependency.
  • Maintains awareness of emerging technologies: Evaluates and applies relevant software development, database, API, AI-assisted development, DevOps, and architecture practices to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
  • Complexity: Work involves research, architecture, technical judgment, and problem solving across a wide variety of highly complex product, data, application, integration, and customer-impact scenarios. The role requires sophisticated understanding of enterprise software architecture, legacy-system behavior, API migration, database performance, configuration management, client workflows, and product modernization. Assignments may involve ambiguous requirements, urgent production issues, performance constraints, competing customer needs, or decisions that affect backward compatibility and long-term product direction.
  • Decision-Making: Supervision received is primarily administrative, with assignments provided in terms of broad objectives, product priorities, risk constraints, and delivery expectations. The Solution Architect acts independently on technical matters within areas of expertise and makes recommendations that influence product architecture, migration strategy, performance, maintainability, testing approach, and customer-impact mitigation. Consequences of error may include system instability, degraded performance, customer workflow disruption, rework, delayed releases, or loss of critical product knowledge.
  • Work Direction Given to Others: Supervises, coordinates, mentors, or provides technical direction to senior developers, software developers, QA resources, implementation specialists, support staff, product owners, UX resources, and offshore or partner development teams. May lead architecture reviews, technical feature teams, best-practice working groups, code review discussions, migration planning sessions, and knowledge-transfer activities.
  • Internal Contacts: Interfaces regularly with product leadership, technical managers, software developers, QA teams, implementation teams, support teams, DevOps resources, UX resources, proposal/revenue support teams, and senior leadership as necessary to resolve complex technical issues, align delivery priorities, and preserve product knowledge.
  • External Contacts: May represent the organization in technical discussions with clients, prospective clients, subconsultants, technology partners, and vendors. May provide technical explanation of product behavior, implementation approach, integration constraints, migration considerations, or performance impacts in support of delivery, support, sales, and proposal activities.

About you
  • Education and Experience: B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline required; equivalent directly relevant software architecture, enterprise application development, or product engineering experience may be considered in lieu of degree. This level is typically achieved by practitioners with 16 or more years of related experience since a Bachelor's degree or 15 or more years since a Master's degree. Typical incumbent has 20 or more years of progressively responsible experience in software development, product architecture, database design, API design, enterprise system migration, and technical leadership.
  • Professional Registrations/Certifications: Industry-recognized architecture, cloud, database, agile, DevOps, Microsoft, or software development certifications are desired. Professional registration may be considered for incumbents with Engineering degrees where applicable.
  • Special Skills: Must have extensive experience designing, developing, modernizing, and supporting large enterprise software applications. Must demonstrate strong architecture judgment, deep software development experience, and ability to diagnose complex technical issues across application, API, database, integration, and user workflow layers. Requires strong knowledge of object-oriented design, API architecture, database design, SQL performance tuning, source control, code review practices, DevOps processes, technical documentation, and software quality practices. Experience with enterprise asset management software, public infrastructure workflows, budget forecasting, work order systems, configuration-driven behavior, migration from legacy platforms, and customer-impact analysis is strongly preferred. Must possess excellent communication, facilitation, mentoring, technical writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • General Competencies: General competencies expected of all professional and management-level employees include Client Service, Commitment, Communication, Innovation and Continuous Improvement, Professionalism, Quality, Teamwork, Technical Leadership, Knowledge Sharing, and Accountability.
  • Job Requirements: Job requires ability to access and understand technical materials, operate a computer keyboard, review software and database artifacts, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and work with interruptions to address priority technical issues. Incumbent must be able to plan, prioritize, review project plans and documents, evaluate alternatives, select appropriate solutions, and provide technical leadership under changing priorities.
