What you will do:

The Counter Sales Associate plays a critical role in delivering excellent customer service while driving sales at the counter. This position is responsible for assisting customers with product selection, processing sales transactions, maintaining accurate inventory, and supporting overall store operations. Counter Sales associates serve as a key point of contact for contractors, homeowners, and DIY customers, ensuring a positive, efficient, and knowledgeable buying experience while upholding all company standards related to safety, merchandising, and loss prevention.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming, professional, and solution-oriented environment for every guest, including greeting and acknowledging all customers promptly.
  • Assist customers with product selection, order entry, pricing, availability, and basic technical questions using strong product knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain working knowledge of current products, vendor offerings, promotions, special orders, and seasonal merchandise.
  • Accurately process sales transactions, returns, credits, and payments through the POS system while maintaining proper cash handling and media accountability.
  • Support merchandising standards by assisting with product displays, signage, pricing accuracy, store cleanliness, and organization of sales areas.
  • Receive, stock, rotate, and replenish merchandise while monitoring inventory levels and reporting discrepancies or shortages.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, loss prevention, pricing, and inventory control.
  • Communicate customer feedback, special requests, and service issues to store management in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with yard staff, delivery teams, and management to ensure accurate order fulfillment and smooth daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support store operations and customer satisfaction.
What you will bring:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1+ years of retail or counter sales experience preferred
  • Lumber, building materials, or construction industry knowledge strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including POS systems and inventory software
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
