Job description

Amazon Ads Publisher Technology is an exciting program that is pioneering new experiences for Ad Publishers - both Amazon first party (e.g. Prime Video, FireTV, Twitch, etc), and third party - as they onboard new sponsored experiences for their customers. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Software Development Manager to lead the engineering team and own the infrastructure and technical roadmap for Publisher Ad Server team

Our scope has grown substantially and we are looking for a thoughtful engineering leader to grow the team, build adaptive customer experiences and deliver a scalable system that will delight customers worldwide.
This is a highly visible position with significant impact and growth. The software development manager, along with the product manager will be the single threaded owners responsible for driving the vision, capabilities and success of the Supply Side product set. To be successful in this role, you are customer obsessed and have sharp business acumen to build a product vision and roadmap that contributes to the success of both our internal and external customers

You are a technical leader with track record of building and growing engineering and data teams. You ship high quality software, own the day to day maintenance and evolution of systems that serve the needs of our large and growing base of users. We are looking for a leader who can thrive in a startup environment, thinks big, can move fast, and find ways to improve customer experiences and tech capabilities .

If you are interested in making huge impact leading a rapidly expanding team, come join us as we work hard, have fun, and make history.
You Will:
- Own technical vision and direction: You identify and mitigate risks, construct project schedules, and prepare status reports; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running. Oversee the planning and execution of 1-year and 3-year product roadmaps.
- Grow your team: You'll be accountable for growing an engineering team that deliver results. This means you'll wear a lot of hats - from coaching individuals, to leading technical discussions, recruiting, establishing processes, and so on

You'll be an example of Amazon's leadership principles and work to grow more leaders within your group. You will manage a fast-growing team that may span multiple locations.
- Collaborate on product direction: You'll build and maintain relationships between engineering, product management and related disciplines (Product, User Experience, QA) to ensure that we're focused on delivering the right product for customers.

- Lead beyond your team: You will be a key leader within Amazon's advertising organization. You will contribute to the overall growth of our product development organization. You'll share your best practices and technical acumen in order to drive technology decisions across our organization.

- Own your own shop: Our products reach hundreds of millions of customers around the world. We run operations 24x7x365 and the services your team delivers must meet high standards for operational excellence. Our teams own and operate the systems we build.

You are:
- Pragmatic and iterative in building software: you have an ability to simplify and get things done quickly with a demonstrated track record of building and delivering software and working effectively with external and internal teams.
- Highly analytical and data-driven: You solve problems in ways that can be backed up with verifiable data. You focus on driving processes, tools, and statistical methods which support rational decision-making.
- Technically relentless: You push the limits past conventional boundaries.
- Team obsessed: You find and cultivate talent to be capable of achieving ambitious results

You help develop the creative atmosphere to let engineers innovate, while holding them accountable for making smart decisions and delivering results.
- Comfortable with ambiguity: You're able to explore new problem spaces with unique constraints and thus non-obvious solutions; you're quick to identify any gaps in the team and the right person to fill them to best deliver value to customers.
- Solutions: you're quick to identify any gaps in the team and the right person to fill them to best deliver value to customers.
Key job responsibilities
- Understand the fundamentals (and tradeoffs) of Amazon's existing advertising stacks and potential 3rd party services.
- Drive technical solutions/architecture for a Publisher Ad Server that can scale to millions of customers globally.
- Work closely with other PubTech technical teams.
- Build relationships and earn trust with partner teams to ensure they are aligned with PubTech technical goals.
- Oversee the planning and execution of 1-year and 3-year product roadmaps.
- Own and present to senior leadership key roadmap decisions, tradeoffs, and timelines.
- Develop a culture of rapid experimentation, measurement, and iteration.
A day in the life
You will be leading a team of Software Development Engineers (SDEs) on building efficient ways to serve ads. You will understand industry standards such as IAB to guide your team to create industry solutions. Your team will be involved in offline and real-time advertising bid-flow to ensure publisher's deals with advertisers are met

You will work closely with other teams within SupplyTech on design and implementation of solutions. You will supervise the creation of design documents and the presentation of those to teams, and will be expected to provide feedback on design artifacts submitted by both your SDEs and other teams. You will lead daily standups with the engineering team.

You will work with product managers to understand our publisher's requirements, and will then work with various stakeholders in aligning on a final vision of how our publishers will use the feature you are developing.
