Job description

The Summer Engineering Research Intern position is a paid, experiential learning opportunity designed for Ivy Tech Engineering and Green2Gold students. Interns will participate in a structured, faculty-mentored research experience focused on computational modeling, simulation, and AI-assisted engineering design.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering problems, preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing, mechanical design, and engineering analysis, while strengthening transfer readiness to four-year institutions.
• Conduct applied engineering research under faculty supervision
• Develop and analyze computational models and simulations using engineering software (e.g., ANSYS)
• Apply engineering fundamentals to open-ended, real-world problems
• Assist in AI/ML integration for engineering design and analysis workflows
• Interpret and validate simulation results using engineering judgment
• Participate in weekly progress meetings and technical reviews
• Document research findings in a technical report and conference-style paper
• Deliver a formal end-of-program presentation to faculty and industry partners
• Enrolled in an Engineering or Green2Gold program at Ivy Tech
• Minimum GPA of 3.5 required
• Completion of MATH211, MATH212, and PHYS220 required before the start of the internship
• Strong interest in engineering analysis, modeling, or research
• Ability to commit to the full 8-week internship
