Job description
Program Launch, Leadership, and Student-Athlete Development
- Launch and lead the Women's Flag Football program in a manner consistent with the mission and values of Edgewood University and Edgewood University Athletics.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive launch plan that establishes the program's identity, culture, operating standards, competitive goals, and path toward sustainable success.
- Build a team culture centered on accountability, respect, teamwork, communication, inclusion, and competitive excellence.
- Plan, organize, and conduct productive practice sessions, team meetings, conditioning sessions, and competitions.
- Teach the technical, tactical, physical, and mental aspects of flag football, including offensive and defensive concepts, position-specific skills, safe technique, and situational decision-making.
- Support the academic, personal, leadership, and career development of each student-athlete.
- Model and foster appropriate sportsmanship, competitiveness, humility, integrity, and professionalism.
- Work collaboratively with Athletic Training, Athletic Performance, Academic Success, Division of Student Development, and other campus partners to support student-athlete well-being and success.
- Establish annual launch and competitive benchmarks, evaluate program progress, and adjust strategies as the sport and collegiate landscape evolve.
Recruiting and Enrollment Management
- Develop and execute a comprehensive recruiting strategy to identify, attract, and enroll academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for the inaugural roster and future classes.
- Build relationships with prospective student-athletes, families, high school and club coaches, state associations, and other recruiting influencers within the expanding girls' flag football ecosystem, including NFL FLAG and multi-sport pathways.
- Partner closely with the Admissions Office throughout the recruiting process.
- Utilize departmental recruiting software, CRM systems, video evaluation, and appropriate communication tools to manage recruiting activity.
- Build and maintain a competitive roster consistent with departmental expectations, program needs, and institutional enrollment goals, with an anticipated roster range of approximately 18 to 25 student-athletes.
- Recruit and retain student-athletes who contribute positively to the program, department, and University community.
- Foster retention through an exceptional student-athlete experience.
Program Administration
- Manage the program operating budget, booster budget, and related financial activity in accordance with departmental and institutional policies.
- Develop a competitive spring schedule that meets current NCAA sport sponsorship and minimum contest requirements, and coordinate team travel, facilities, game-day operations, officials, and sport-specific field setup.
- Coordinate the purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and replacement of uniforms, footballs, flag belts, mouthguards, field markers, and other program equipment.
- Supervise assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student managers, student assistants, and other team personnel, as applicable, and complete required administrative responsibilities accurately and on time.
- Assist with fundraising, grant opportunities, alumni engagement, and program support initiatives in collaboration with Athletics and Advancement.
Compliance Oversight
- Maintain a current working knowledge of NCAA Division III, Emerging Sports for Women, applicable conference or league, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Ensure the Women's Flag Football program operates in full compliance with all applicable rules, policies, procedures, playing rules, and sport sponsorship requirements.
- Ensure student-athletes complete required eligibility certification processes and maintain accurate compliance, roster, sport sponsorship, and competition records.
- Educate assistant coaches, student-athletes, boosters, alumni, and parents or guardians regarding applicable NCAA, conference or league, and institutional expectations.
- Promote a culture of integrity and accountability within the program.
Community Engagement, Visibility, and External Partnerships
- Develop relationships with high school associations, youth and club organizations, USA Football, RCX Sports Foundation, NFL FLAG, local professional football partners, and other organizations that benefit the program and University.
- Create clinics, camps, showcases, and other engagement opportunities that expand access to the sport and strengthen the program's recruiting pipeline and community visibility.
- Facilitate meaningful campus engagement and complete at least one team community service project each year, in addition to participating in at least one Athletics Department service project.
- Build the program's base of supporters and develop alumni engagement traditions as the program grows.
- Represent the University and Athletics Department at departmental, institutional, recruiting, partner, alumni, and community events.
Other Duties
- Attend Athletics Department staff meetings, team and individual meetings, and other institutional meetings as appropriate.
- Participate in University-wide committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.
- Support Athletics Department events, including the annual golf outing, Hall of Fame, Athletics Awards Ceremony, and other departmental initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

The Head Women's Flag Football Coach is expected to:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Coaching and/or recruiting experience at the collegiate, high school, club, or elite youth level, with demonstrated knowledge of flag football or football rules, strategies, skill development, and safe coaching practices.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain successful student-athletes and to organize and lead a new initiative, program, or team.
- Demonstrated commitment to NCAA Division III philosophy and holistic student-athlete development.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree preferred.
- Head coaching, coordinator, or comparable program leadership experience preferred.
- Experience coaching women's or girls' flag football and/or launching or significantly growing a team, program, or sport offering preferred.
- Collegiate coaching and recruiting experience preferred.
- Established flag football recruiting relationships and relevant coaching certification through USA Football or a comparable organization preferred.
- Experience using recruiting software, CRM systems, and video analysis platforms preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, project management, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to build systems and solve problems in a new-program environment.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations, or the demonstrated ability to acquire that knowledge quickly.
- Ability to relate effectively to a diverse population of students, colleagues, alumni, families, and community members.
- Understanding of and ability to support the Edgewood University Mission and Values.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet institutional driving requirements.
Specialized Technology Skills:
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office 365 platform.
- Comfortable using recruiting CRM systems, such as Slate or equivalent platforms.
- Comfortable using video analysis and scouting software, such as HUDL or equivalent platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to use social media platforms appropriately and effectively for program communication, recruiting, and promotion.
