Job description

The Engineering Director is responsible for ensuring projects within the electrical group maintain compliance with the most current codes and industry standards and best practices for each project. This position will involve early design decision and direction, development of necessary quality improvements and infrastructure improvements, and acts as the QA/QC lead for all projects, reviewing projects and advising on needed changes prior to project submissions. The Engineering Director is a senior position, and as such is expected to offer excellent client communication skills and will often act as a project manager for Primera.  Finally, the Engineering Director is involved in development of proposals, market growth, and strategic planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Manages medium complexity non-prime or prime multidiscipline projects with subconsultants
  • Ensures compliance with client and internal management system requirements and Implements project delivery procedures
  • Proficiency in Primera’s financial and project management applications
  • Advanced knowledge of loss prevention practices
  • Assist with initial scoping of projects and attend client meetings to present approach options
  • Ensures projects are compliant with department technical standards (specs, details, etc.)
  • Develop training sessions for department employees, bringing in industry speakers, and vendor reps to disseminate trainings on current trends in building systems industry
  • Maintain involvement and oversight of projects, from initial conceptual design and study phases to project completion
  • Teams with group manager to develop the training plans for department personnel, including development/sourcing of training materials and seminars coordinating the required trainings with approval of the Division Manager
  • Responsible for QA/QC duties for projects, ensuring that Primera quality standards are met prior to stamping and signing of documents
  • Responsible for ensuring the group has best technologies to meet evolving needs of clients
  • Develop and maintain updated professional resource libraries well as department software tools
  • Involved with technical committees and memberships, and submit technical papers to journals

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Advanced knowledge of IEEE and BICSI standards
  • Advanced knowledge of key performance parameters for electrical power equipment and their sustainable design.
  • Maintains department design instructions
  • Experienced with key architectural considerations for electrical equipment such as a room sizing, shaft sizing, clearances, ceiling and interstitial space constraints
  • Ability to manage the development and maintenance a quality technical infrastructure of design process, instructions, templates, and forms.
  • Ability to supervise assigned administrative staff
  • Ability to stay current with technology in a cost efficient and productive manner

Education and Experience:

  •  S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with at least 4 years of relevant experience in a supervisory capacity or responsible-in-charge
  • PE required
