How much do software engineering apprentice jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Software Engineering Apprentice vs Software Developer?
| Aspect | Software Engineering Apprentice | Software Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically enrolled in or recent graduate of a coding bootcamp or computer science program | Bachelor's degree in CS or related field often preferred |
| Work Environment | Entry-level, training-focused, often in internship or apprenticeship programs | Full-time professional role, responsible for developing software solutions |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used by tech companies for training new talent; common in internship programs | Standard role across tech firms, startups, and enterprises |
The main difference is that a Software Engineering Apprentice is in a training or learning phase, often part of an internship or apprenticeship program, while a Software Developer is a fully responsible professional role focused on designing and implementing software solutions. Apprenticeships serve as a stepping stone toward becoming a full-fledged Software Developer.

The Opportunity
Infravision is looking for a skilled Journeyman Lineman to support drone-augmented transmission stringing operations across the U.S. This role will perform hands-on transmission construction work while helping deploy Infravision's innovative UAV-integrated stringing methods, smart-tensioning systems, and specialized field hardware.
The Journeyman Lineman will work closely with UAV pilots, field crews, operations leaders, safety teams, and customer stakeholders to support safe, efficient, and high-quality construction execution. This includes lead-line deployments, pulling, tensioning, sagging, equipment setup, structure work, troubleshooting, and field documentation.
This is a field-based role for someone who brings strong line construction experience, safety discipline, adaptability, and an interest in helping modernize how transmission infrastructure is built.

Why Work For Infravision
At Infravision, you will be part of a mission-driven technology company helping transform how high-voltage transmission infrastructure is built. Our work is hands-on, field-based, and directly connected to grid modernization, renewable energy growth, and critical infrastructure delivery.
ou will work alongside operations, field, safety, aviation, engineering, and customer teams to support safe and successful deployments of specialized transmission construction technology.
This is a role for a lineman who wants to apply their trade in a new way - combining proven line construction practices with drone-enabled stringing, smart-tensioning systems, and field technology designed to improve safety, access, and productivity.
What You'll Do
- Perform skilled transmission line construction, maintenance, repair, and restoration work on overhead and underground electrical systems.
- Coordinate with Infravision UAV pilots to support lead-line deployments across structures while maintaining line-of-sight safety, clearance, and communication protocols.
- Support end-to-end stringing activities, including pulling, tensioning, sagging, splicing, dead-ending, and related field execution.
- Operate and support Infravision smart-tensioning systems, remote-release hardware, lightweight pullers, tensioners, and other specialized stringing equipment.
- Manage OPGW and conductor pulls across challenging environments such as highways, environmentally protected areas, energized corridors, and access-restricted locations.
- Climb utility poles and work from aerial lift devices at various heights, as required.
- Install and remove poles, crossarms, insulators, transformers, conductors, anchors, guy wire, travelers, pulleys, aerial needle systems, and related utility equipment.
- Read and interpret staking sheets, circuit maps, switching orders, construction prints, and sag-tension data.
- Troubleshoot field issues and support safe, timely restoration or continuation of work.
- Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, winch trucks, tensioners, pullers, and other line construction equipment.
- Conduct job briefings, hazard assessments, and safety checks before and during work execution.
- Follow OSHA, NESC, company safety policies, utility customer requirements, and Infravision safe work methods.
- Lead or mentor apprentices, ground personnel, and field crew members as needed.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, equipment, and work areas in safe operating condition.
- Complete daily work reports, inspections, field documentation, and required compliance records.
- Participate in emergency response, storm restoration, extended-hour work, and travel as required.
- Support other field, operational, safety, documentation, equipment, and startup needs as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Journeyman Lineman status required.
- 5+ years of line construction, transmission, distribution, or related utility field experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited lineman training program preferred.
- Experience constructing, maintaining, repairing, and restoring overhead and/or underground electric systems.
- Experience with transmission stringing, conductor pulls, sagging, splicing, dead-ending, and line construction equipment.
- Prior experience with, or demonstrated ability to learn, UAV-integrated stringing methods, aerial stringing workflows, and specialized field technology.
- Ability to interpret construction prints, staking sheets, circuit maps, switching orders, sag-tension data, and related field documentation.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, NESC, utility safety requirements, energized and de-energized work practices, and job hazard assessment procedures.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, pole top rescue, and bucket truck rescue certifications preferred.
- Class A CDL required.
- Ability to work in rugged U.S. field environments, including mountains, swamps, urban corridors, remote terrain, and locations where traditional equipment access may be limited.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and support emergency, storm, travel, extended-hour, or on-call needs as required.
- Strong safety mindset, professional communication, and ability to work effectively with UAV pilots, field crews, customers, contractors, and technical teams.
- Flexibility to support a broad range of responsibilities in a growing startup environment.
