Job description

Job Summary

  • Supports manufacturing crews and maintenance department personnel by troubleshooting and making repairs to electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems and equipment. Maintains and supports all aspects of Aurora PLC, HMI and PC-based electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery. Familiar with standard maintenance concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works independently, but with general supervision and guidance from the Maintenance Manager. A certain degree of independent thinking, creativity and latitude is required. Will perform preventive maintenance tasks as required. May be tasked with minor design/build activities and minor project work. May be asked to function as backup to Maintenance Manager as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all work in a safe manner, adhering to all SACO AEI safety policies, local and national codes and standards.
  • Perform maintenance activities to support the manufacturing process with focus on minimizing downtime, maximizing productivity in a safe manner.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and repair faults in Aurora production equipment and building systems including extruder lines (extruders, feeders, and associated equipment), building utility systems and electrical power distribution systems.  Systems may include (but not be limited to electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and material conveying systems).
  • Troubleshoots all aspects of PLC, HMI and PC-based electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery.
  • Provides technical support for PLC, HMI, and PC-based electrical control systems or coordinates support with outside vendors.
  • May be responsible for the design, development, modification, and installation of PLC based hardware and software.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, building or support systems as directed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC drives as required.
  • Design and modify machine controls circuits as required, including both standard and safety circuits.
  • Evaluate and observe performance of equipment after repair to ensure proper function.
  • Perform basic fabrication (cutting, welding, assembly) to repair broken parts or fabricate new parts as necessary.
  • Use equipment documentation and vendor catalogs to identify parts and materials needed and prepare purchase requisitions to procure these items.
  • Prepare and submit daily end-of-shift paperwork documenting maintenance activities along with parts and supplied used.
  • Utilize Aurora CMMS to enter preventive and corrective work orders, document repairs, track labor and list parts used.
  • Perform basic Root-Cause-Failure Analysis to identify underlying cause of failure and coordinate with others to implement changes to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Update Aurora documentation (red-line) utilizing CAD or manual methods to reflect changes or as-built condition.
  • Support Aurora 5S program through completion of 5S audits and corrective actions.
  • May be called upon to provide direction to other maintenance staff during the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Attend and participate in daily shift change meetings.
  • Supply own tools and tool storage.
  • Work occasional overtime as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Associates degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance; or Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; or state-approved apprenticeship program and/or a minimum or ten years’ experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Successful completion and certification in Allen-Bradley PLC, HMI and AC/DC drive training courses (Studio 5000, Factory Talk, Drive Tools SP, Connected Components Workbench (CCW)).
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), OSHA and EPA standards, and NFPA 70B & 70E.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Strong electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and temperature control troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of plastics compounding technology, single screw extrusion, and loss-of-weight feeder technology.
  • MIG, TIG and stick welding skills.
 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move up to fifty-five pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times.  Must be able to grasp, squeeze, stand, kneel, bend, crawl, push, pull, twist, stoop and climb to work on equipment. Must be able to wear PAPR units. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to lift overhead. Must be able to withstand heat and cold.  Must be able to withstand dust. Must be able to work at heights of 30± feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
