  • Analyze business and technical requirements; translate them into effective software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, debug, implement, and maintain applications on the IBM i platform.
  • Provide accurate estimates for assigned work and communicate risks, dependencies, and changes that may affect delivery commitments.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing as appropriate.
  • Diagnose and resolve application defects, data issues, production incidents, and performance problems.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design reviews, and architecture discussions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, implementation instructions, and operational support materials.
  • Collaborate with product management, quality assurance, operations, database administration, architecture, and other engineering teams.
  • Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Use approved source-control, change-management, build, deployment, and AI-assisted development tools in accordance with company policies.
  • Identify deficiencies in applications, technical designs, and engineering processes and recommend practical improvements.
  • Support application modernization efforts, including the replacement or refactoring of legacy components.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers when needed.
  • Assist with production support, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Complete assigned work in accordance with established schedules, regulatory requirements, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain compliance with the MEDHOST Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the needs of the organization.
These responsibilities retain the core expectations in the current job description, including solution design, estimation, process improvement, technical guidance, schedule accountability, and QMS compliance. What we're looking for:
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Five or more years of commercial software-development experience.
  • Professional experience developing and supporting applications on IBM i.
  • Experience with RPG, ILE RPG, free-form RPG, and CL.
  • Experience with Db2 for i and SQL.
  • Experience developing or supporting SQL stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, or other database objects.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts, data modeling, normalization, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experience working within a structured software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with source control, configuration management, and formal change-management processes.
  • Understanding of software design principles, modular development, reusable components, and established design patterns.
  • Experience with unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a development team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to document technical designs, decisions, procedures, and implementation requirements.
The current description establishes the baseline of five or more years of product-development experience, RPG and CL, Db2 SQL, SQL procedures, testing knowledge, analytical ability, technical writing, and change-management experience. What will make you stand out:
  • Experience with modern RPG development practices and fully free-form RPG.

  • Experience using Visual Studio Code or Rational Developer for i.
  • Experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, web services, or application integration.
  • Experience modernizing legacy IBM i applications.
  • Experience with healthcare software, revenue-cycle applications, financial systems, or other regulated enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development practices.
  • Experience with production support and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience using approved AI-assisted software-development tools.
  • Familiarity with Java, HTML, JavaScript, or other cross-platform technologies.
  • Technical problem-solving
