Fuss & O'Neill, a leading New England-based consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer/Project Manager to join our growing team in Vermont. This role will focus primarily on managing bridge projects throughout the state, including work for VTrans and Vermont municipalities, while collaborating closely with our highway and traffic design teams.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in bridge design and construction, along with strong project management skills to lead projects from initial scoping through final design and into construction. This individual will play a key role in managing schedules, budgets, client relationships, and QA/QC processes while supporting the continued growth of our Vermont bridge practice. While Vermont will be the primary focus, opportunities to support projects across New Hampshire and Maine may also arise.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage bridge projects for VTrans, Vermont municipalities, and other public sector clients from project initiation through design and construction phases
  • Serve as the primary project manager for bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate closely with highway and traffic design leads to deliver integrated transportation solutions
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and resource allocation
  • Ensure projects adhere to internal and client-specific QA/QC standards and procedures
  • Provide technical leadership in bridge design, structural analysis, and constructability reviews
  • Maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts for Vermont transportation projects
  • Collaborate with regional teams across New England to support project delivery and worksharing opportunities
  • Assist in positioning the firm for future VTrans on-call contracts and strategic bridge pursuits

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine, or ability to obtain
  • 15+ years of progressive bridge design experience, preferably with Vermont bridge projects (New Hampshire or Maine experience will also be considered)
  • Strong experience managing bridge projects for state DOTs and municipal clients
  • Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
  • Experience with bridge design software including MathCAD, LEAP Steel/Concrete, Midas Civil, BrR, and MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple schedules, stakeholders, and delivery phases
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client management skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10% throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine
