Job description

About Sesame
Sesame believes in a future where computers are lifelike - with the ability to see, hear, and collaborate with us in ways that feel natural and human. With this vision, we're designing a new kind of computer, focused on making voice agents part of our daily lives. Our team brings together founders from Oculus and Ubiquity6, alongside proven leaders from Meta, Google, and Apple, with deep expertise spanning hardware and software. Join us in shaping a future where computers truly come alive.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer building internal tools at Sesame, you will be building and maintaining the pipelines and tooling that ingest audio and text data and produce and evaluate trained AIs for text and voice conversation. You'll collaborate with ML engineers and researchers, software engineers, and other cross-functional teams, all as customers of your work.
The ideal candidate for this role is a strong software engineer who also brings a strong sense of UI/UX for bespoke internal tools. You'll build and maintain React-based web tools that let the teams manipulate large datasets in the cloud and the cloud-deployed Python-based infrastructure that brings our products to life. Sesame is a fast-moving startup, so you should feel comfortable diving into any of these areas, learning new tools and services, and bringing with you a strong intuition for robust software engineering and deployment practices.
Responsibilities:
  • Rapidly prototype and build internal tools for a variety of functions.
  • Work on our ML infrastructure, internal tooling, and data management.
  • Improve our developer productivity and our application reliability by investing in developer tooling and practices.
  • Develop custom internal tools and integrations where needed for more complex workflows.
  • Consult with research teams to deeply understand their workflows and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Maintain and iterate on tools based on user feedback to continually improve utility.
  • Monitor tool reliability and be available to troubleshoot issues.
  • Advocate for interfaces, APIs, and UX designed for usability.

Required Qualifications:
  • 4+ years building production full-stack software with a focus on usability
  • Strong communication skills
  • Start-up mindset
  • Proficiency with modern web development stacks
  • Experience with cloud technologies
  • Experience working with ML research teams
  • Demonstrated a focus on reliability and iterative improvement
  • Experience building internal tools
  • Experience balancing trade-offs while maintaining security, privacy, and reliability standards
  • Knowledge of security and privacy best practices

Sesame is committed to a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered. We welcome all qualified applicants, embracing diversity in race, gender, identity, orientation, ability, and more. We provide reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities. Contact careers@sesame.com for assistance.
Full-time Employee Benefits:
  • 401 (k) max employer match: 3.5% of compensation
  • 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental benefits for you and your dependents
  • Unlimited PTO and sick time
  • Flexible spending account with employer matching up to $1,650/year (medical FSA)
  • Guardian Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Opportunity to share in the company's success with competitive stock options

Benefits do not apply to contingent/contract workers.
