Our Battle Management Software Department is looking for software engineers to support development, test, and other tasks throughout a software life cycle for aircraft embedded software applications.  The aircraft operating system interfaces with several avionics systems including displays, navigation, and mission planning.  This challenging work requires strong problem-solving skills and the desire to learn from and work with world class Engineers.

This position will be 100% onsite in Indianapolis, IN.

What You Will Do

  • Use and provide creative solutions to complex technical system and software integration problems.

  • Work closely with other software engineers and systems engineers to design ideal solutions with the end user and operational needs in mind.

  • Support all aspects of a software development life cycle as members of a multi-disciplined team. This includes supporting new and legacy military and commercial programs from concept and requirements, to design, development, integration, test, and potentially subsequent maintenance tasking.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Experience in software requirements, design, development, integration, and test. 

  • Experience developing and testing software using C++, C#, Ada, Python, or closely related software languages. 

  • Experience developing software in a Windows environment. 

  • Experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts such as understanding classes, inheritance, polymorphism, and encapsulation. 

  • Experience with Git for source code management.

  • Experience with DevOps and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and software development methodologies.

  • Experience with software systems design, integration, and management. 

  • Experience with utilizing software debugging tools to troubleshoot software implementation and ensure integrity of the software products. 

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer 

  • Software development experience on embedded high-criticality Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Green Hills Software (GHS) INTEGRITY or WindRiver VxWorks.

  • Software/firmware and documentation development experience on safety critical programs, executed under processes prescribed in MIL-STD-882E, DO-178, DO-254, DO-330, DO-331, DO-332.

  • Experience using software optimization techniques and timing analysis to ensure real-time operation and synchronization across software products. 

  • Experience with Ethernet and MIL-STD-1553 protocols and associated analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark and AltaView, respectively). 

  • Working knowledge or driver development experience in common computer hardware interface and data protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, serial, USB and PCI. 

  • Experience with communications software libraries and development tools such as DDS, TSS, ZeroMQ/NetMQ.

  • Experience with graphics software libraries and development tools including OpenGL, VAPS XT, GL Studio or SCADE.

  • Experience developing requirements for software products. 

  • Understanding of computer architecture and computer hardware optimization techniques. 

  • Working knowledge of Software Configuration Management principles environments and tools.

  • Working knowledge and experience in an Agile development environment using Azure DevOps, Jira, or equivalent toolsets.

  • Parallel programming principles and processes for technical computing environments.

  • Strong desire and ability to collaborate in a team environment.

  • Strong writing and oral presentation skills.

  • A proactive approach to identifying challenges and finding solutions collaboratively.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
