Job description

What You Will Do:
As a Software Engineer Level 3 at Independent Software, you will design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems supporting mission-critical operations. This role combines front-end development with middleware and backend development, with a strong focus on database interfaces, data processing, and integration between backend systems and user-facing applications.
You will work independently and as part of an Agile development team while providing technical leadership and contributing throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance complex software applications
  • Develop modern front-end applications and integrate them with backend services, APIs, and database interfaces
  • Develop middleware solutions to retrieve, parse, process, and deliver data to front-end applications
  • Analyze user requirements and translate them into software design and performance requirements
  • Design and implement database and data repository interfaces and queries
  • Debug software, resolve defects, and improve application performance
  • Integrate existing software into new or modified systems and operating environments
  • Develop and execute software testing procedures and ensure quality of developed solutions
  • Lead and mentor software developers, providing technical guidance and code reviews
  • Collaborate with system engineers, UX/UI teams, and other technical stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain software and system documentation

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong experience developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software applications
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue and web technologies including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Full-stack development experience, including backend services and RESTful or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience developing database or data repository interfaces and parsing data for front-end applications
  • Experience with software development, testing, debugging, and system integration
  • Experience leading or mentoring software developers
  • Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated software delivery
  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud
  • Experience working in Linux/Ubuntu environments
  • Experience with tiered application architectures
  • Experience with Section 508 or WCAG accessibility standards
  • Experience supporting large-scale data processing, analytics, or real-time systems

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus twelve (12) years of Software Engineering experience supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity; OR
  • ixteen (16) years of relevant Software Engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree
  • Seven (7) years of experience in Software Database and Repository Interface Development is required
Clearance Requirement:
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
