WHOOP is hiring a Software Engineer II (Backend, Health Records) to help build the systems that enable secure, scalable ingestion and utilization of health data. In this role, you will contribute to the infrastructure that connects external healthcare ecosystems with WHOOP's platform, transforming complex health records into meaningful, actionable insights. Your work will directly power personalized health experiences and expand WHOOP's ability to deliver long-term value to members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contribute to the design and development of backend systems for ingesting and processing health record data from external sources (e.g., EHRs, third-party health platforms)

  • Build and support robust data pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure health record data for reliable downstream consumption

  • Develop and maintain secure, scalable APIs and services that expose health record data to internal systems and member-facing features

  • Apply best practices for data privacy, security, and access control when working with sensitive health data

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, data science, and engineering teams to unlock new health insights and capabilities

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality, maintainable systems

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2-4 years of experience building backend systems and APIs in production environments

  • Experience working with backend technologies such as Java (or similar), relational databases (e.g., Postgres), and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS)

  • Familiarity with designing and working with data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and validation of structured or semi-structured data

  • Understanding of API design principles

  • Exposure to healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, CDA) or integrating with external health data sources

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down technical tasks and deliver iteratively

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments

  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000 - $175,000 Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training. 
 
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
 
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate's specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role's requirements.
