Job description

About PayZen
PayZen is on a mission to bring financial health to healthcare. Our products improve both access and affordability for patients and cash flow and administrative complexity for medical providers. We are trusted by a rapidly growing number of health systems, hospitals, and physician groups and are backed by leading venture capital investors, including NEA, SignalFire, Viola Group, and 7Wire Ventures.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - an individual contributor who owns a product surface end-to-end. At this level, you work independently on your surface and are guided on novel domains.
You own a product surface within Care Finance's provider and partner platform - the systems that connect PayZen to health systems and partners - on a weeks-long horizon, in an environment governed by HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2.
Responsibilities
Deliver Reliable Craft on Your Surface
Deliver reliable, high-quality craft on your surface, with AI-native output as the standard. Deepen your fluency with HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOC 2 as you build.
Identify Gaps and Frame Problems
Identify gaps in your surface and contribute to framing the problems worth solving, considering data and compliance implications.
Deliver Dependably
Deliver reliably on your surface, manage your own dependencies, and escalate with context - not just problems.
Create Clarity Through Writing
Create clarity through writing that stakeholders can act on, communicate tradeoffs to non-engineering partners, and align the people closest to your work.
Give Feedback and Mentor
Give timely peer feedback, start mentoring more junior engineers on craft, and take part in hiring independently.
Automate and Contribute to Shared Tools
Automate recurring manual steps, and contribute to shared tooling and internal libraries.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering production systems.
  • Ability to own a product surface end-to-end and work independently, seeking guidance on novel domains.
  • Reliable, high-quality craft with an AI-native approach to output.
  • Experience managing your own dependencies and escalating with context, not just problems.
  • Hands-on proficiency in at least one of Java, Go, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Clear written communication that helps stakeholders act, including non-engineering partners.
  • Growing fluency with application security and compliance-regulated environments; HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or SOC 2 exposure a plus.
