Job description

Software Engineer

Relativity is a leading legal data intelligence company building technology that helps users organize data, discover the truth, and act on it with confidence. Our AI-powered, cloud platform, RelativityOne, transforms massive volumes of complex information into actionable insights for litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, data breach responses, and other high-stakes legal work where accuracy and trust are crucial.

The world's largest law firms, corporations, and government agencies rely on Relativity's legal AI software to securely surface and manage the most relevant and impactful information in their matters. Beyond our commercial impact, we're deeply committed to expanding access to technology for academic institutions through Relativity Academic and supporting pro bono legal work through Justice for Change.

At Relativity, engineers don't just write code. They help build distributed systems that process massive volumes of complex data, enabling users to uncover meaningful insights and act with confidence in high-stakes environments.

The Enrichment team powers the ingestion and transformation of terabytes of complex and abstract data into Relativity's Review platform. The team focuses on solving large-scale data challenges, including high-throughput ingestion, data extraction, and transformation across diverse document sets. Engineers on this team build highly distributed systems composed of multiple data stores, processing layers, and web services, while also modernizing the user experience and improving performance at scale. If you're excited about working with big data, solving complex scalability challenges, and building systems on a secure SaaS platform, this is a team where you can have real impact.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to building Relativity's cloud-based platform by designing and operating highly scalable, distributed systems. You will work on dynamic web applications and serverless technologies, helping to process and transform large volumes of data efficiently and reliably. This role reports to the Manager of Software Engineering and offers the opportunity to work across multiple layers of the system, gaining experience in distributed architecture, cloud technologies, and large-scale data processing.

Job Description And Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Design and build performant, scalable, and secure software with a strong focus on quality, not just meeting requirements
  • Collaborate with a software development team to deliver high-quality, secure, and reliable systems operating at massive data scale
  • Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests, supported by static analysis and thoughtful test strategy development
  • Improve the software development process by recommending enhancements to tools, workflows, and engineering practices
  • Participate in pair programming to improve software quality, share knowledge, and strengthen implementation approaches
  • Contribute to designing maintainable and extensible systems across multiple layers of the application stack

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with object-oriented programming using languages such as C#, Java, or similar
  • Experience with front-end web development using JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Experience building REST APIs
  • Experience working on an Agile software development team
  • Understanding of core software engineering principles and ability to work across multiple layers of the application stack
  • Experience with web development using JavaScript and familiarity with software engineering best practices such as unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, and debugging

Preferred

  • Understanding of DevOps principles and experience with tools such as GitHub Actions
  • Experience designing and developing highly scalable solutions in Azure or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with Kubernetes, serverless technologies, and related cloud-native tools
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design principles and event-driven architecture
  • Awareness of emerging technology trends and applying them to real-world engineering challenges

Why We Could Be A Great Fit

  • Impactful Mission: Build systems that enable organizations to organize data, discover the truth, and act on it in high-stakes legal and regulatory matters.
  • Big Data at Scale: Work on systems that process terabytes of diverse and complex data, solving real-world scalability and performance challenges.
  • Growth Opportunity: Gain hands-on experience with distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, and full-stack development while working with experienced engineers.
  • Engineering Culture: Operate in a collaborative environment focused on quality, shared ownership, continuous improvement, and strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Inclusive Environment: Diverse perspectives and backgrounds are valued and help create stronger teams and better products.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary, health and retirement programs, wellness resources, discretionary time off (DTO), parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers, company-wide breaks, home office stipend, and an equity program.
  • Relativity is committed to competitive, fair, and equitable compensation practices.
  • This position is eligible for total compensation which includes a competitive base salary, an annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives.
  • The expected salary range for this role is between $79,000 and $119,000.
  • The final offered salary will be based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity.
