What is a software engineer consultant?

A Software Engineer Consultant is a professional who provides expert advice, guidance, and hands-on support to organizations on software development projects. They analyze client needs, design technical solutions, and often assist in implementing software systems or improving existing ones. Unlike in-house software engineers, consultants work on a contract or project basis and may serve multiple clients. Their expertise is leveraged to solve complex problems, optimize processes, and ensure best practices are followed.

How does a software engineer consultant typically balance multiple client projects, and what strategies help manage competing priorities?

Software Engineer Consultants often juggle several client projects simultaneously, each with its own deadlines and requirements. Effective time management, clear communication, and setting realistic expectations with clients are crucial strategies. Consultants frequently use project management tools to track progress and prioritize tasks, and they collaborate closely with both client teams and internal colleagues to ensure alignment on deliverables. This dynamic environment offers valuable opportunities to develop project management and client-facing skills, which are highly regarded in the consulting field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software engineer consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Engineer Consultant, you need strong programming skills, a solid grasp of software development methodologies, and usually a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools such as version control (e.g., Git), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), and relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer add significant value. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability are essential soft skills for effectively engaging with diverse clients and teams. These skills ensure you can deliver tailored technical solutions, foster client trust, and drive project success in a dynamic consulting environment.

Full-time

Job description

ABOUT KALLES GROUP:

Everyone deserves to be secure. Our mission at Kalles Group is to help secure the future for companies of all shapes and sizes.

While our expertise spans multiple disciplines, our method remains consistent: building trust and relationship with people -- whether you are a client, a consultant, or--in this case--a candidate.

No matter what role you come from--whether you're an executive or just starting your career-you can expect our highest level of attention and respect. We want to find the right fit for each role, but we also want you to find the right fit for your career.

We believe the best way to show you what our team is like is to treat you like you're already a part of it. We hope you'll consider joining our team of experienced professionals who are building their careers at Kalles Group—and having fun while doing it.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As a Salesforce Engineer Consultant, you will help our client design, develop, and enhance enterprise Salesforce solutions that support critical customer engagement and business operations. Working as a hands-on engineer, you will leverage both custom development and declarative configuration to deliver scalable, maintainable, and secure Salesforce capabilities.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into well-architected Salesforce solutions. You'll contribute across the full software development lifecycle—from solution design and implementation through deployment, integration, and ongoing platform optimization. Success in this role requires strong Salesforce development expertise, sound architectural judgment, and the ability to balance code-based and configuration-based solutions to maximize business value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance Salesforce solutions using a combination of Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and declarative platform capabilities
  • Evaluate business requirements and determine the most effective implementation approach using custom development or platform configuration
  • Configure and extend Salesforce objects, automation, security models, page layouts, validation rules, and user experiences
  • Develop and maintain integrations between Salesforce and enterprise applications using APIs, middleware, and event-driven architectures
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and product teams to deliver scalable technical solutions
  • Participate in solution design discussions and contribute to platform architecture decisions
  • Develop high-quality, testable code and participate in code reviews and continuous integration practices
  • Support release management activities across development, testing, and production environments
  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize platform performance, and address technical debt
  • Maintain technical documentation, integration designs, and solution architecture artifacts
  • Ensure platform security, access controls, and data protection align with enterprise security standards
  • Share technical knowledge and mentor other members of the Salesforce delivery team

ABOUT YOU:

Your values:

    • Integrity: You believe in doing the right thing, even when it's uncomfortable, seemingly inefficient, or costly.
    • Purposefulness: You have a desire to serve others with your skillset and an openness to continuous learning and growth.
    • Ownership: You stick to your commitments, follow up with action, and seek clarity in communication & expectations.

YOUR EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience developing and configuring Salesforce Lightning Platform solutions
  • Strong experience with Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Salesforce declarative tools including Flows, validation rules, page layouts, and security models
  • Experience working with Salesforce Financial Services Cloud (FSC) or comparable Salesforce Industry Cloud solutions
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with enterprise applications using REST APIs, SOAP APIs, Platform Events, or middleware platforms
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce deployment methodologies including Salesforce DX, source-driven development, Git, and CI/CD practices
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I certification or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce security architecture, sharing models, and data access controls
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to gather business requirements and explain technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience participating in Agile software development environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the nCino platform
  • Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer II, Administrator, Financial Services Cloud Accredited Professional, or related credentials
  • Experience with MuleSoft or other enterprise integration platforms
  • Programming experience with Python or other modern development languages
  • Experience supporting software delivery within regulated industries such as banking, financial services, healthcare, or insurance
  • Familiarity with enterprise customer data platforms and Customer 360 strategies
  • Knowledge of banking or financial services business processes, including lending, deposits, or customer relationship management

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • The annual salary range for this role is $125,000-$165,000.
  • Work/life balance – we know there's more to life than work! We encourage our team to pursue other passions, get outside, and spend time with family. We work with clients and consultants to set expectations for a manageable workload.
