Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Software Developer III to support a program for NIWC PAC in San Diego, CA. The team is seeking an experienced software engineer to develop custom applications for a critical Security Operations Center. Details below: Clearance: Secret clearance Location: San Diego, CA (100% onsite) This job opens for applications on 7/23/2026 Applications for this job will be accepted for at least 30 days from the posting date Responsibilities of the Software Engineer: * Design, develop, test, and maintain custom software applications that support Security Operations Center (SOC) personnel and cybersecurity analysts in protecting and monitoring enterprise networks. * Develop and enhance applications primarily using Python and JavaScript, delivering scalable, reliable, and secure solutions. * Implement new features, resolve software defects, and perform ongoing maintenance across multiple existing applications. * Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, and team members to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions. * Modernize and refactor legacy codebases by implementing contemporary development practices, improving code reusability, maintainability, and performance.
* Participate in the design and development of new Python-based applications to support mission-critical security operations. * Contribute to the migration of software development processes from a traditional waterfall methodology to an Agile development framework. * Utilize Agile practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, code reviews, and retrospectives, to support continuous delivery and team collaboration. * Develop and integrate user-facing interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks and technologies, including React or NextJS where applicable.
* Work within Linux-based development and deployment environments to build, test, troubleshoot, and maintain applications. * Collaborate closely with a small Agile development team to deliver high-quality software solutions that enhance the organization's cybersecurity capabilities.
Qualifications of the Software Engineer: * Active Secret Clearance
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and 5+ years of software development experience * IAT II certifications (one of the following): CySA+, Security+, CCNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP
* Programming experience with Python and JavaScript * Development experience in Linux based environments Compensation of the Software Engineer: * Total compensation based on experience level - $130,000-$140,000 **based on experience level**
