Job description

IMEG is hiring a Civil Project Engineer who will act as a Development Project Manager in Billings, MT, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity civil projects. You'll collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity work while providing engineering solutions and advice that help clients achieve positive outcomes. You will also support project delivery through analysis, design, and implementation oversight-while working within budget and collaborating across teams to meet project goals.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform complex engineering calculations as assigned (e.g., hydraulic calculations, traffic projections, piling or rebar calculations, or calculations to balance site earthwork)
  • Support water and sewer system designs for smaller private systems and larger municipal systems
  • Prepare grading and stormwater designs for commercial, industrial, and residential site plans
  • Coordinate and oversee permit application efforts for a variety of municipalities
  • Lead civil engineering analysis and design efforts; utilize engineering software and tools to develop designs, specifications, and calculations per code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Partner with clients to gather requirements and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling efforts to meet deadlines and objectives; document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress (percent complete and fee expended)
  • Provide in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirements
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance; interpret state and local design criteria and apply it to project needs while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the Civil Engineering and Construction industry required.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays
