Longwood Collective is seeking an organized and motivated Data Intern for their Area Planning Department for a roughly 6-week project at 20 hours/week. This is an exciting opportunity for hands-on experience to contribute to improving operational efficiency. The Longwood Collective is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing Boston's Longwood Medical and Academic Area for the benefit of those who live, work, or receive care in the LMA. Longwood is one of Boston's busiest and most dynamic neighborhoods and an epicenter of innovation, culture, education, and healthcare. Position Summary
For the past 25 years, Longwood Collective has engaged in data collection outreach efforts from our 22 member institutions. This data includes critical demographic, facilities, parking, commuting benefit, financial, workforce development, and sustainability data that help us tell the story of Longwood over time. This data has recently been migrated from hundreds of excel workbooks to a software platform, Acumatica. The Data Intern will assist in building a dashboard to visualize trends for reporting, compiling new data available through public sources, assist with communication with members, and conduct diligent QA. The Intern is expected to work in-person with flexible and negotiable hours between 7am-5pm Monday -Friday.
Essential Responsibilities
• Assist in building a connected dashboard, with IT, for data analysis using excel formulas, pivot tables, and charts
• With manager, co-lead meetings and interviews with senior management to help determine what visualizations would be most helpful for Planning and Communications
• Find and scrub recently migrated data for duplicates and upload newly collected data
• Use critical thinking and good judgement to evaluate data and bring recommendations to manager
• Assist in creating best practices and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for using the dashboard
• Present a walkthrough of the dashboard and instructions to the organization
Preferred Skills
• Meticulous attention to detail and discretion is required to handle sensitive and confidential data with accuracy to minimize human error, and to cross check for quality assurance
• Potential opportunity to assist with other data collection tasks and collaborate with various Longwood Collective project managers on efforts such as flood mapping, tree inventorying, furniture and other asset inventorying.
• Proficiency with Excel and the rest of the Microsoft Suite
