Job description

Otter Products is hiring Artificial Intelligence (AI) Interns for the Fall semester. This opportunity is based at our Fort Collins, CO headquarters.

As an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Intern you will have an opportunity to apply growing AI solutions development and engineering knowledge and skills to design, build, and deploy AI solutions that address business needs. You will own end-to-end AI features, build tools, not demos, that real users will rely on in terms of systems, scale, and adoption. 

We are looking for junior-, senior- or graduate level Computer Science students with hands-on experience building and deploying applied AI solutions for real users. To succeed in this internship, you will care about architecture and code quality, be able to clearly explain technical tradeoffs in a business context and take some ownership in providing high-impact AI solutions.

  • AI Solution Development
    • Design and develop AI-powered solutions using large language models (LLMs), retrieval systems, and orchestration frameworks.
    • Build, enhance, and maintain applications and tools using Python, or similar technologies.
    • Support the integration of AI solutions with APIs, databases, and business systems under the guidance of senior team members.
    • Translate ambiguous business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • AI Engineering
    • Write clean, maintainable, organized, and well-documented code following team standards and best practices.
    • Apply established processes for security, version control, testing, and deployment.
    • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions to build technical expertise.
    • Apply software engineering principles to design AI solutions focused on scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Business Collaboration & Delivery
    • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand business needs and user requirements to deliver effective solutions.
    • Gather and incorporate user feedback to drive continuous improvement and iterative enhancements of AI solutions.
    • Participate in moving solutions from prototype stages to production-ready implementations.
    • Communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Support and maintain a positive safety culture by following all safety policies and procedures and actively contributing to a safe working environment.

  • Enrolled in an accredited university or college program at the undergraduate (Junior level or higher) or graduate level or be a recent college graduate (within 1 year) required
  • Computer Science, or directly related, major required.
  • Exerience with Python required.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (i.e., OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.) required
  • Familiarity with modern AI tooling: Retrieval / RAG concepts, vector databases, prompt engineering, tool calling / agents
  • Available to work at least 20 hrs/week Monday to Friday in our Fort Collins, CO office from September to December.
  • Interns will be paid $23.00/hr. All interns are eligible for modified benefits, Paid Time Off, Volunteer-Time Off, and profit sharing.
