Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Engineering Support Intern is a technical and coordination focused role that works across multiple engineering disciplines to support the planning, organization, and execution of engineering projects. This position provides hands on support with procurement, inventory management, expense tracking, documentation, and basic technical tasks, helping engineering teams stay organized and on schedule. Under the guidance of program managers, systems engineers, and project coordinators, this position will help draft procedures, organize drawings and task tracking, support meeting planning, and perform engineering tasks such as component specification, pricing, and trade studies. This role is ideal for candidates who aspire to grow into project or program management roles in an engineering environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Support the engineering team in the following ways:

  • Work across engineering teams (e.g., systems, hardware, software, RF, mechanical, electrical) to understand project tasks and priorities.
  • Assist in tracking tasks assigned to different groups.
  • Coordinate with staff to keep task lists, schedules, and status information current and accurate.
  • Support procurement by collecting component specifications, part numbers, and vendor information.
  • Assist in tracking order status in coordination with the procurement team.
  • Help maintain and reconcile inventory of parts and assemblies used on engineering projects.
  • Assist with expense reports related to project activities, travel, and materials.
  • Assist engineering teams in drafting and formatting procedures and process documentation.
  • Support the organization and version control of technical documentation.
  • Assist with developing agendas, capturing action items, and distributing meeting notes.
  • Support the preparation and management of visitors, by coordinating with security and project staff.
  • Support the use of project management tools monitor progress and ensure visibility of work across the team.
  • Perform other related tasks consistent with the scope and level of an engineering support internship, as assigned by supervisors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • U.S. Citizen

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering (e.g., Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial), Engineering Management, or a related technical or STEM field.
  • Basic understanding of engineering concepts and the product development lifecycle (requirements, design, integration, test, etc.).
  • Proficiency with standard office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook or equivalents).
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail in documentation, data entry, and file management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and to seek guidance when needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated to continually expand knowledge and skills related to this position.
