Position Title: Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Location: Rockville, MD (on-site requirement)
Salary: $110,000.00 +
Position Summary
Command Cyber Solutions is seeking a full-time Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support the development and quality assurance of enterprise-grade .NET Core and Azure-based applications. This role is responsible for designing scalable automation frameworks, validating cloud-native systems, and integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with experience in automation, API/backend validation, cloud environments, and modern quality engineering practices.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and quality engineering infrastructure.
  • Create automated UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product owners, and technical teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design discussions with a quality-first mindset.
  • Troubleshoot defects, perform root cause analysis, and support resolution efforts.
  • Validate APIs, backend services, authentication flows, data integrity, and cloud-based system integrations.
  • Build reusable testing utilities, mocks, fixtures, and automation tooling.
  • Support performance, reliability, security, and scalability testing initiatives.
  • Continuously improve automation coverage, testing processes, and engineering best practices.

Education, Certification & Experience Requirements:
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Quality Engineering, or Test Automation.

Certifications Required:
  • Ability to pass federal and local background investigations.

Experience Required:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or test automation.
  • Strong programming experience with C#, .NET Core/.NET, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks using Playwright, Selenium, xUnit, NUnit, or similar tools.
  • Experience testing web applications, REST APIs, distributed systems, and Azure-hosted applications.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Git workflows, SQL/database validation, and backend testing.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and modern quality engineering practices.
  • Ability to perform strong targeted manual exploratory and edge-case testing when needed.
  • Experience with Azure services including App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Service Bus, Application Insights, and Azure Monitor.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), OAuth, OIDC, and RBAC.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized environments.
  • Experience with performance, load, or reliability testing.
  • Experience testing AI-enabled or machine learning powered applications.
  • Familiarity with regulated or compliance driven environments (FedRAMP, NIST, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of SDLC methodologies, automated test framework design patterns, and quality engineering principles applicable to enterprise grade .NET Core, Azure hosted, and containerized application environments.
  • Strong understanding of federal compliance frameworks including NIST and FedRAMP requirements as they apply to software testing and validation within USDA cloud environments.

Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in designing and maintaining automated test frameworks using Playwright, Selenium, xUnit, and NUnit, with demonstrated experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines via Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Proficient in debugging, root cause analysis, and defect resolution across distributed systems, including REST API validation, Microsoft Entra ID authentication flows, and database integrity testing using Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Service Bus.

Abilities:
  • Ability to operate independently within Agile sprint cycles, contribute to code reviews and technical design discussions with a quality-first mindset, and collaborate effectively with software engineers, product owners, and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt to emerging technologies and AI-enabled application architectures while maintaining a security first approach across multi-cloud and containerized federal environments.
