About the Team

The Developer Agent team's mission is to empower developers to work in the environment that best suits them-whether that's their preferred local IDE or Workday Extend's App Builder-while providing intelligent, context-aware tooling that deeply understands the Workday platform. We are creating a seamless development experience powered by AI agents that assist with coding, platform navigation, automation, troubleshooting, and application development workflows.
As part of this team, you will work at the intersection of developer productivity, AI, and platform engineering, building next-generation tools that enhance how thousands of developers build Extend apps.

About the Role

As a Full Stack Engineer on the Developer Agent team, you will design and build core platform capabilities that advance Workday toward more AI powered agentic developer experiences and workflows . This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys full-stack ownership, takes pride in well-tested and maintainable code, and is energized by building agentic tools that other external developers rely on every day.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), driving ambiguous, complex problems from initial concept to production. You are comfortable defining success metrics, aligning stakeholders, and leading small, high-impact teams to deliver scalable solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with peer engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to translate high level requirements into well-scoped, executable engineering work.

  • Uphold API governance and engineering best practices within the team, including versioning, backward compatibility, and security standards for public-facing surfaces.

  • Write clear technical documentation for your features and contribute to internal engineering knowledge bases.

  • Contribute to release planning by evaluating the effort, risk, and priority of planned features.

  • Own services through their full lifecycle, including incident response, root cause analysis, and ongoing reliability improvements

  • Help improve team productivity by contributing to process improvements and engineering best practices

About You

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering full stack features at production scale.

  • 5+ years of experience in JVM-based backend development (Java or Kotlin), with proficiency in the Spring Boot framework.

  • 5+ years of proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including experience with React.

  • 3+ years hands-on experience deploying and operating production services in a cloud-native environments like GCP or AWS.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Other Qualifications
  • AI & Agentic Systems: Familiarity with large language model integration strategies, such as OpenAI-compatible APIs, data streaming, and tool/function calling. Basic understanding of agentic architectures and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a producer or consumer.

  • Agentic Coding Tools: Hands on experience with AI coding agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, or Cline.

  • Backend API Development: Comfortable implementing real-time streaming (SSE/WebSockets) and OpenAI-compatible endpoints.

  • Frontend & React: Proficiency in modern frontend technologies including React, HTML, and CSS to deliver high-quality developer-facing interfaces.

  • Code Quality & Testing: A strong commitment to testing methodologies using frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, JUnit, Cypress, & similar.

The following are advantageous but not required:

  • Familiarity with LangChain or comparable LLM orchestration frameworks

  • Hands-on experience with cloud development technologies and platforms (AWS, Kubernetes, Helm) is a plus

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location.
