Job description

Program Overview

The Compressed Air Service Technician Co-Op Program provides hands-on, real-world experience for students pursuing careers in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, electromechanical technology, or HVAC-related trades. Participants work alongside experienced technicians to learn the fundamentals of compressed air systems, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and customer service in industrial environments.

This program is designed as a pipeline into full-time service technician roles upon successful completion.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Field Support

  • Assist senior service technicians with installation, maintenance, and repair of:
    • Rotary screw compressors
    • Reciprocating compressors
    • Dryers, filters, drains, and ancillary equipment
  • Support preventive maintenance activities, including:
    • Oil changes, filter replacement, belt inspections
    • Basic mechanical checks and system inspections
  • Observe and assist with troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues
  • Learn proper use of diagnostic tools and service documentation

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out protocols, and PPE requirements
  • Participate in safety training and toolbox talks
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites and service vehicles

Customer & Team Interaction

  • Interact professionally with customers under supervision
  • Learn job documentation, service reports, and work order systems
  • Support warehouse and parts handling when required

Learning Objectives

By the end of the co-op, participants will gain exposure to:

  • Fundamentals of compressed air systems and applications
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting basics
  • Preventive maintenance best practices
  • Field service professionalism and customer engagement
  • Industrial safety standards and procedures

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in or recently accepted into a technical, vocational, or community college program related to:
    • Industrial Maintenance
    • Electromechanical Technology
    • Mechanical Technology
    • HVAC / Industrial Systems
  • Strong interest in hands-on mechanical work
  • Willingness to work in industrial environments
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain during program)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied physical conditions

Preferred

  • Basic mechanical or electrical coursework completed
  • Prior shop, maintenance, or trade experience (school or work)
  • Strong work ethic, curiosity, and coachability
