Job description

Job Title: Software Developer, Scientific Computer & DevOps Type: Long-term Contract Compensation: $56.00 - $0.00 Work Model: Remote – offsite Hours: 40.0

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to software architecture discussions and implement approaches that support long-term reliability and sustainability.
  • Design and implement new features and refactors with a focus on clarity, maintainability, and performance.
  • Support consistent architecture, configuration, testing, and documentation practices that satisfy regulated-environment requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and improve multi-repository CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and containerized workflows that provide consistent, traceable environments.
  • Support application workflows that execute in HPC environments and collaborate with IT on integration and troubleshooting.
  • Improve recurring release processes by streamlining workflows, reinforcing regression-test infrastructure, and minimizing manual steps.
  • Collaborate with IT, engineering analysts, and software developers to deliver robust tools and sustainable practices that meet SQA requirements.
  • Reduce technical debt through backlog work that supports maintainable design patterns, modernization opportunities, and consistent development standards.
  • Support additional team-owned applications, services, and workflows as technical scope evolves.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering or DevOps/SWE hybrid experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing, debugging, deploying, and supporting software in Linux-based HPC or batch-computing environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with containerization technologies.
  • Proficiency with Python and modern Git-based development workflows.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar codebases, technologies, programming languages, and build systems.
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with relevant tools and platforms such as SLURM, AzHOP, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker, or Apptainer.
  • Experience supporting engineering, scientific, or nuclear software.
  • Experience with automated documentation workflows.
  • Experience supporting multiple teams or shared platforms, such as frameworks, toolchains, or multi-repository environments.
  • Experience with compiled languages, such as Fortran, C/C++, or Rust, including associated build, test, and debugging tools.
  • Understanding of numerical methods, modeling tools, or reactor-analysis workflows.
