Job description

Ryan Companies seeks a Senior Software Engineer for its headquarters office in Minneapolis. This is an IN-OFFICE role with a flexible work schedule in Minneapolis.

About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer position is responsible for producing scalable software solutions for Ryan Companies. This role is expected to work both independently and as part of a cross‑functional and cross‑departmental team as necessary to deliver high‑quality, secure, enterprise‑capable and sustainable software solutions using the software development life cycle, from conception to deployment. As a full stack software developer, you should be comfortable around both front‑end and back‑end coding languages, development frameworks and third‑party libraries as well as the infrastructure required to enable the solution. This role is expected to review, troubleshoot and assist with other developing and deployed solutions as well as mentor and guide team members on best practices, emerging technology and other improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrative experience developing full stack enterprise ready software solutions leveraging the right technology languages, frameworks and libraries.
  • Build solutions that are visually appealing, user experience focused and that are well functioning with client and server technologies.
  • Responsible for the operational integrity and security of the system, including managing CI/CD pipelines, regression testing, security audits, and proactive performance monitoring to ensure stability and resilience.
  • Design and build highly adaptable software architectures that anticipate future needs while navigating the complexities of undefined business logic and that aligns with overall Ryan Companies current and future technology architecture and security contexts.
  • Applies expert judgment to navigate complex security requirements, performing pragmatic risk assessments to distinguish between acceptable configurations and potential threats.
  • Demonstrates end‑to‑end system ownership by managing the complete lifecycle of data‑driven applications: from data ingestion (ETL, API consumption), quality analysis, and transformation, through to front‑end implementation with user‑configurable controls.
  • Experience within matrixed, cross‑functional development teams and the ability to work within a team or independently to deliver high quality solutions.
  • Extensive, demonstrative experience translating end user "stories" into real working software solutions, refining and implementing them into long term solutions for business needs.
  • Ability to managing workload and prioritization independently and right size estimates to produce solutions on time and on budget.
  • Write technical documentation and provide guidance to other developers, support and business teams.
  • Assist the technology team in the technical discovery process by translating ambiguous ideas and complex needs from diverse stakeholders into a cohesive technical vision and actionable roadmap, culminating in the delivery of robust and scalable software solutions.
  • Ability to unwrap test, debug, troubleshoot and update other developed software solutions using native tools.
  • Actively coach, pair‑program with, and upskill team members transitioning from legacy/on‑premise architectures to cloud‑native paradigms.
Desired Qualifications
  • 2‑ or 4‑year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on professional experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering robust, full‑stack enterprise solutions.
  • Practical experience writing Terraform, managing containerized workflows (Docker/Kubernetes), and configuring CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Cloud Build).
  • Deep proficiency in React or Angular, modern CSS/styling frameworks, and state management.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of modern backend languages (specifically C#/.NET Core, Python, or Node.js) and API design.
  • Strong understanding of backend technologies that enable on premise and cloud software solutions (GCP, IIS, MS SQL, Azure).
  • Have a strong capability to create structure and technical clarity especially when evaluating current structures and proposing new designs.
  • Modern orchestration methods, design and implementation strongly considered.
  • Candidate must be able to submit verification of their legal right to work in the U.S., without company sponsorship.
