Job description

General Description

At Crane Worldwide Logistics, we're building resilient software systems that connect critical business platforms across transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, finance, and customer-facing applications. We are seeking a Technical Lead to serve as the lead engineer for a Software Integrations team, collaborating closely with Engineering Managers and other technical leaders to shape engineering standards and technical direction. This role combines architecture ownership, technical leadership, engineering mentorship, and hands-on software development. You will lead solution design, guide technical direction, mentor engineers, and help deliver greenfield integration platforms and services that support critical business operations. This role reports to the Engineering Manager and does not include direct people[1]management responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

Technical Leadership

  • Lead technical discovery, solution design, and decision-making for major initiatives.
  • Collaborate across Software Integrations teams to establish and evolve shared engineering standards and architectural patterns.
  • Drive continuous improvement of team-owned systems, engineering practices, and platform capabilities, promoting scalability, reliability, maintainability, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor to the Engineering Manager and team stakeholders.

Software Engineering & Delivery

  • Design, develop, and support cloud-native, event-driven integration systems in AWS using .NET/F# and Kafka.
  • Build and maintain APIs and backend services supporting business-critical operational systems.
  • Collaborate with Product, Business, Platform, and Data Engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Mentorship & Team Enablement

  • Mentor engineers in software design, coding practices, cloud architecture, and operational excellence.
  • Guide technical decisions during implementation and help engineers solve complex technical challenges.
  • Lead technical interview rounds and provide hiring recommendations for engineering candidates.
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to onboard and develop new engineers.

Physical Requirements

  • Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment.
  • Talking, hearing, and using hands to operate computer equipment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May require travel to client and site locations to support implementation activities, including on-site presence during go-live periods.
  • Job will require presence at the assigned work location.

    Education and Experience

    Required

    • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and delivering production software systems.
    • Deep expertise within the .NET ecosystem, including significant experience with F# and functional programming principles.
    • Strong experience designing and operating event-driven systems using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
    • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including consistency, resiliency, fault tolerance, concurrency, and system scalability.
    • Experience building cloud-native applications and services on AWS using modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
    • Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, domain modeling, and integration patterns.
    • Proven ability to lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering decision-making processes.
    • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, shaping technical approaches for greenfield initiatives, and driving solutions from concept through delivery.

    Preferred

    • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as Terraform.
    • Experience designing integrations between enterprise business systems (ERP, TMS, WMS, financial, or operational platforms).
    • Experience working in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or related business domains.
    • Open-source contributions, technical publications, conference presentations, or other examples of engineering thought leadership.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
