Job description

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About the Role:

The Cloud Storage team at Crusoe is looking for a Software Engineer I to join our team building and operating cloud storage infrastructure. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer to grow their skills in distributed systems and storage engineering while contributing to high-performance, scalable, and reliable storage solutions. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, learning cloud storage primitives and storage engineering concepts as you take on increasingly independent ownership of features and projects.

What You'll Be Working On:

  • Contribute to Engineering Efforts: Work with your team on cloud storage features, helping to implement well-scoped pieces of larger projects as defined by product and engineering leads.

  • Software Development: Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code with guidance from senior engineers. Contribute to design documentation for the features you work on. Participate in testing and rollout of software across the stack, from bare metal to user-facing APIs.

  • Technical Contribution: Take part in code reviews (both giving and receiving feedback), and participate in architecture and design discussions to build your understanding of the broader system.

  • Continuous Learning: Actively grow your technical skills through mentorship, pairing, and collaboration with teammates. Ask questions, seek feedback, and build foundational knowledge in distributed storage systems.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Participate in team initiatives like tech talks, open source exploration, and book clubs to broaden your exposure to the engineering organization.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • Foundational Technical Skills: Some hands-on experience (through internships, school projects, or ~1 year of professional work) with building or operating software systems; exposure to cloud infrastructure or distributed systems is a plus but not required.

  • Software Engineering Fundamentals: Familiarity with core software engineering practices — coding standards, code reviews, source control (e.g., Git), testing, and basic CI/CD or build processes. Eagerness to learn and adopt team best practices.

  • Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Java or Go. Basic understanding of Linux fundamentals and computer architecture concepts (willingness to deepen this knowledge on the job).

  • Communication & Collaboration: Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset; comfortable asking questions and working closely with more senior engineers.

  • Growth Mindset: Strong desire to learn storage systems and distributed computing concepts, with a track record of picking up new technical skills quickly (coursework, personal projects, or prior roles).

Bonus Points

  • Coursework, personal projects, or internship experience involving storage technologies (e.g., NVMe, SSDs) or distributed systems.

  • Exposure to storage protocols such as NFS, SMB, iSCSI, or NVMe-oF.

  • Any contributions to open source projects (school-related or personal).

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (physical or software-defined).

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation and equity packages

  • Restricted Stock Units

  • Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs

  • Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance

  • Employer contributions to HSA account

  • Paid parental leave

  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability

  • Professional development & tuition reimbursement

  • Mental health & wellness support

  • Commuter benefits (parking & transit)

  • Cell phone stipend

  • 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary

  • Volunteer time off

  • Global travel insurance & emergency assistance

  • Daily meals allowance

  • Additional perks & programs specific to location

Compensation Range

Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $117,000 - $138,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
