Job description

Software Testing Intern / SDET, Java & Selenium (2 Positions) | Phoenix, Mostly Remote | $17-18/hr W2

Location: Phoenix, AZ (first 2-3 days onsite, then once a month; otherwise remote) | Hours: flexible 20-40/week, works around college classes | Duration: ~6 months | Start: after interviews and onboarding

Who this is for: current college students (undergrad or Master's) or very recent graduates in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related, local to the Phoenix metro area. This is a real engineering internship with a state agency modernizing its test automation: mentorship, code reviews, and a production-grade stack (Java 17, Spring Boot, Selenium, Cucumber, JUnit, Jenkins), not a run-the-tests seat.

What you'll do: build and expand automated tests (Java + JUnit + Selenium + Cucumber), create test cases from user stories, support release verification, partner with developers on shift-left quality, improve framework components, and help with defect triage.

Required: pursuing or recently completed a relevant degree; working Java/OOP knowledge (coursework and projects count); basic testing concepts (JUnit, defect lifecycle); basic SQL; exposure to Maven; basic scripting (Bash, PowerShell, or Python); Agile comfort. Nice to have: CI/CD exposure, Docker, Cucumber/Selenium specifics, JMeter, OWASP basics, interest in AI-assisted testing.

Logistics: must be local to Arizona with your city on your resume; own personal laptop required (agency workstation assigned for remote access); in-person interview availability within a week; W2 only; must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future (no visa sponsorship of any kind, including future). HireRight background check and drug screening required.

Apply with your resume showing your current Arizona city.
