Job description

Are you a senior software developer who wants to innovate on the world's largest dynamically priced market for computing? Do you thrive on leading complex, cross-organizational initiatives that shape how customers access cloud infrastructure? Come join the EC2 Pricing & Launch Services team!
The team:
Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) enables customers of all sizes to run their applications on industry leading cloud infrastructure. EC2 Pricing & Launch Services is a team under the EC2 umbrella that helps customers access compute resources at the best possible price based on current available supply and demand.
EC2 Pricing & Launch Services builds and manages software that enables dynamic pricing, helping customers take advantage of available EC2 capacity in the most cost optimized manner. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. This team is growing rapidly so we can significantly expand the feature set and increase scale.
You:
We're seeking a senior software developer with 3+ years of experience leading cross-organizational projects end to end. You should have a proven track record of driving alignment across multiple teams, defining technical direction, and delivering large scale systems that span organizational boundaries. You are passionate about distributed systems architecture, solving synchronization and performance optimization problems at scale, and raising the technical bar for those around you. You should be passionate about building impactful features for customers, innovating around pricing and bidding systems, championing operational excellence, and helping grow market segment share. You should have deep understanding of data consistency and transactions between distributed services, and demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions beyond your immediate team. Extensive experience with web services at large scale is expected, and it won't hurt if you enjoy relaxing and having lunch out with the team once in a while.
Key responsibilities:
- Own and drive the technical vision and architecture for software that runs an exchange for computing resources, including pricing models and distribution of risk
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives spanning multiple teams to design, build, and optimize customer facing features that make it easy for customers around the world to select products and use EC2 features in the most cost effective way
- Define intuitive web service APIs and leverage AWS's cutting edge technologies to develop new customer features rapidly
- Identify and drive strategic technical investments that improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across team boundaries
- Empower developers from around the world to build their applications on EC2 compute power (e.g. reduce friction, simplify APIs, add tooling, improve the service architecture)
- Influence engineering best practices and operational excellence standards across the organization
- Automatically deploy and monitor services to identify performance issues before customers do
- Recruit, interview, and hire software developers that raise the bar in all areas
- Mentor software developers across the team, provide technical guidance on complex design decisions, and grow your skills and career
Diversity and Inclusion:
We are committed to furthering a culture of inclusion. We have ten employee led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon's culture of inclusion is reinforced within the 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust. The team also puts a high value on work life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here. The team is dedicated to supporting new team members. We are building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Senior engineers truly enjoy mentoring more junior engineers and engineers from non traditional backgrounds through one on one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth, assigning projects and work based on what will help each team member develop into a well rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 8+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
