Overview
Hussmann's Internship Program provides meaningful, real-life experiences while working as a solutions leader in the food retailing industry. Hussmann interns receive competitive compensation, participate in community stewardship, network with company leadership, and learn about career opportunities available at Hussmann.
As the Back-End Cloud Developer intern in the 2027 Hussmann Summer Internship Program, you will be contributing to the design and implementation of new features for our cloud-based monitoring and reporting platform. These solutions help customers track refrigeration case performance, maintain optimal operating conditions, and ensure food freshness.
Responsibilities
  • Work with Hussmann engineers to implement software that monitor Hussmann cases
  • Participate in SW development scrums
  • Develop/Test/Review/Merge code related to new SW features
  • Use AI as part of the software development cycle to work on SW features
  • Work with requirement and QA engineers to address issues with new or existing features
  • Network with senior leaders, associates, and other program interns to learn about our organization
  • Tour Hussmann's 1.6 million square foot manufacturing facility, our Global Hub for hosting customers, and the R&D Lab where we test product quality
  • Participate in community stewardship outreach, career development events, and other team-building offsite events
  • Compete in the annual Ideation & Innovation Challenge

Ideation & Innovation Challenge: Throughout the twelve-week program, all Hussmann interns will divide into cross-functional teams and compete with one another for the Hussmann Ideation & Innovation Challenge. Working with Hussmann mentors and leaders, you and your team will identify a solution to a provided problem statement. At the end of the summer, you'll present your team's business proposal to a panel of judges, executive leaders, and the organization - and possibly create a roadmap for Hussmann's next great innovation.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in school pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn
  • Strong programming skills with:
  • Solid programming fundamentals in Object Oriented language (Java preferred)
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs/HTTP and SQL
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Spring boot
  • Ability to relocate, if not local

The summer internship will run from the third week of May through the first week of August. These dates may be changed to meet the needs of the student.
