Software Contract information

What is a software contract?

Software contracts are legally binding agreements that define the terms and conditions under which software is developed, licensed, or used. These contracts typically outline the rights and responsibilities of both parties, including payment terms, deliverables, intellectual property ownership, support, maintenance, and confidentiality clauses. They help protect both software providers and clients by ensuring clarity and minimizing disputes. Common types include software development agreements, licensing agreements, and maintenance contracts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software contract manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Software Contract Manager, you need expertise in contract law, software licensing, negotiation, and compliance, usually grounded in a legal or business degree. Familiarity with contract management systems (CMS), e-signature tools, and legal research databases is typically required. Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills help build effective relationships and mitigate risk. These competencies ensure contracts are structured to protect company interests, minimize legal exposure, and maximize value from software agreements.

What are typical challenges faced by professionals working in software contract roles, and how can they effectively manage these challenges?

Professionals in software contract roles often face challenges such as managing multiple client expectations, ensuring clear communication of project requirements, and adapting quickly to new codebases or technologies. Time management is crucial, as contract work may involve juggling several projects with overlapping deadlines. Building strong client relationships and setting clear deliverables from the outset can help mitigate misunderstandings and scope creep. Staying organized and maintaining up-to-date documentation are also key practices for success in this dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

About the Role:

We are seeking a Pension Software Testing Analyst to join our member portal team. This role will support internal systems by developing and executing testing plans for pension administration and related platforms.

In this role, you will work closely with Senior Testing Analysts to review system requirements, design and execute test strategies, and ensure system enhancements and defect fixes are thoroughly validated. You will also play a key role in maintaining automated regression testing and supporting continuous system improvements across the organization

As the Newest Member of our Team, You'll:

  • Review defects and requests from the ticketing system and support impact analysis on system changes
  • Assist in designing and documenting the testing environment, including maintenance schedules and data refreshes
  • Execute testing for system defects, enhancements, and interfaces with external systems
  • Maintain regression test beds and develop new test cases for system modifications
  • Provide training support to staff on system changes and enhancements promoted to production
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and test delivered updates
  • Apply automated testing methods across database and web applications where feasible
  • Apply quality engineering principles throughout the Agile product lifecycle
  • Maintain comprehensive automated regression test plans for core pension system functions (e.g., statements, calculations, and benefit processing)

To Succeed, You Bring:

  • Post secondary education in a relevant area of study combined with relevant experience in software testing environments
  • 5+ years of experience working with pension or benefits data
  • Strong understanding of pension calculations and systems
  • Knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and/or Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Experience with scripting, or programming
  • Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Ranorex, Silk Test, jUnit, UFT, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, Software Test Lifecycle, and defect/bug lifecycle
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy

The target hiring salary for this position is $84,100.00-$98,900.00. Placement within our salary range will be based on factors such as internal equity, market conditions, and the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
