Accounting Technician
Finance & Accounting Department

Duty Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; (normal operating hours).
Summary/Objective of Position:
Under the general supervision of the Controller, the role of this position is to manage and lead all incoming financial documents to ensure accuracy and processing.
Description of Essential Functions of the Position

  • Manage, record, and review all incoming financial documents on behalf of Finance and Accounting.
  • Record and manage all incoming Travel Authorization and Vehicle Requests via the Softdocs application.
  • Reconciliation of travel authorization general ledger account.
  • Works closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Procurement, and is a support to each area when needed.
  • Performs a variety of general clerical duties, answers incoming phone calls, greets customers, and directs them to the appropriate department(s).
  • Assist with recording and managing all construction project payments processed.
  • Assist with the recurring schedule for all utility and monthly payments.
  • Assist in updating electronic files for Purchase Orders, Accounts Payable payments, and other source codes.
  • Other assigned duties

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
  • Associate's degree equivalent in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • One year of experience in accounting, business activities.

Preferred:
  • 2 years of accounting experience or equivalent of education with experience.

Knowledge:
  • Accounting skills and processes.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures.

Skills:
  • Demonstrate skills in customer service, collaboration, and organization.
  • Demonstrate skills in prioritizing and time management, monitoring, and planning

Abilities:
  • Ability to interpret financial processes and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external contacts with clarity.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities of department processes with minimal errors according to department standards.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:
  • Normal office environment
  • Ability to lift boxes and transfer prior year files for storage.

Other Requirement(s):
  • Oral fluency in Navajo is desirable but not mandatory;
  • Must have a valid state driver's license;
  • Obtain a defensive driving certificate to operate a GSA/DC Vehicle.
