Job description

Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) has a reputation as one of the best two-year colleges in the state of Missouri. SCC's service area includes a six-county region with a population exceeding 540,000. SCC's main campus, located in Cottleville, has won architectural awards for its innovative, contemporary design. The college's Dardenne Creek Campus features the Center for Healthy Living and the Field to Table Institute. Opening Fall 2025, the Innovation West Campus located in Wentzville features the Regional Workforce Innovation Center. With a focus on innovation, St. Charles Community College is a leader in delivering high quality education in a state-of-the-art learning environment. St Charles Community College participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XVI athletics. The Part time Head Coach - Softball position is responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the softball program, supervision of assistant coaches, oversight and development of team schedules, potential student-athlete recruitment, and other duties as assigned. This position supervises the Assistant Softball Coach and reports to the Athletic Director.

  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NJCAA and Region 16 as they relate to the softball program.
  • Responsible for coordinating student-athlete recruitment activities for the softball team including, but not limited to, tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes.
  • Responsible for scheduling and supervising all practices and games and submitting statistics to Region XVI and NJCAA national office.
  • Make travel arrangements for the softball team.
  • Prepare for out-of-town travel by requesting meal money advances in a timely manner and by providing itemized receipts and group travel summaries upon return to the college.
  • Encourage academic success, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
  • Responsible for monitoring and supporting the student-athletes' academic progress through monitoring study hall hours, obtaining feedback from faculty and promoting graduation.
  • Supervise volunteers with the softball team.
  • Ensure timely submission of a Volunteer Agreement to the office of Human Resources each year for every volunteer.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities related to the softball program.
  • Provide timely publicity and schedule updates to the Director of Marketing.
  • Develop and participate in fundraising activities for the Athletic Department.
  • Participate in all athletic committee meetings, and other staff meetings when requested, as well as mandatory coaches' meetings held by Region XVI and NJCAA national office.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the softball program budget with the Athletic Director in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Participate in the annual athletic recognition program.
  • Submit a mid-year and end-of-year program summary to the Athletic Director.
  • Perfom other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years of experience coaching high school or intercollegiate softball
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • 18 graduate semester hours in a teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution
  • Community college and NJCAA experience
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement within one year of employment
